What you will do
As Group Manager for Special Vehicle Development, you will oversee the development of specialized vehicle solutions, balancing technical excellence with product strategy and ensuring alignment with business objectives. This role requires strong leadership, project management, and technical expertise in mechanical design and product development within the heavy-duty vehicle or specialized truck applications. Collaboration, communication, and the ability to contribute to roadmaps and strategies are also crucial.
As Engineering Group Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Leading, coaching, and developing a team of highly skilled Engineers across multiple sites
- Directing work in your team, providing directions, and removing obstacles to get work done
- Link technical work to broaden business objectives to contribute to company goals and long-term product value
- Taking ownership for components and systems in your scope and leading the execution of roadmaps
- Managing budget and resources, developing competence, and recruiting new talents to meet current and future needs
- Leading continuous improvement activities (process, tools, methods) and fostering innovation
- Managing interfaces towards other functions to support project deliveries and make daily operations more efficient
- Delivering project activities on time and according to budget.
In this position, you will report to the Director of Mack Medium Duty and Special Vehicle Development located in Greensboro, NC. This position is able to sit in Greensboro, NC or our Macungie, PA office.
Your future team
Our team develops and maintains components and systems for truck solutions including diesel and electric vehicles for Mack and Volvo Trucks in the North American market.
We take full ownership of the product and are accountable for everything we engineer and develop. Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Related field. Master’s Degree is preferred.
- 8-12+ years of experience in Product Development within the automotive industry
- Leadership experience as a manager with direct reports is preferred.
- Experience in Project management and/or proven deliveries of products to the market
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of the market and applications
- Ability to build effective teams, maximizing each person’s contribution to achieve common goals
- Effective communicator, able to provide a clear message and use compelling arguments to gain commitment
- Can do-attitude and being resilient. Rebounding from setbacks and adversity when facing difficult situations.
- Ability to drive cross functional and global network and overcome roadblocks
- Accountable, well organized, analytical, business-focused, and holistic mind-set
