We span 52 sites around the world, include 1,900 employees, and manage a yearly spend of 20 BUSD. We have more than 2,500 suppliers that deliver 1.9 billion parts to Volvo Group Trucks annually. We are a global team working with pride, breaking new ground and leveraging the latest innovations, as well as supporting the brands and safeguarding Volvo Group synergies. We work with speed, agility, and in close collaboration, with a strong mandate toward our suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Extended Parts Offer North America is the team in charge of the supplier base that delivers aftermarket parts to maintain Volvo and Mack trucks running in North America and around the world with maximum uptime over their lifetime. We own responsibility for this segment along with the purchasing process and collaborate closely with our Global Vehicle strategic line and the Aftermarket Parts Sales. The team is responsible for driving end-to-end Purchasing activities while securing QDCF (Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Features) targets.
We currently have an opening for a Manager position for the scope of Extended Parts Offer. This area is undergoing significant transformation in North America to support the Volvo Group growth ambitions on all aspects of QDCF. This includes scouting and selecting new partners worldwide, capturing innovation that will bring value to our customers, and developing new ways of working both with partners and with our internal stakeholders.
You will be based out of our Greensboro, NC headquarter location and will report to the Head of Uptime Conventional Trucks Purchasing North America.
What You Will Be Doing
As Head of Extended Parts Offer Purchasing North America, you are responsible for strategic and operational activities within your area of scope by implementing best practices within your region. You are responsible for driving and managing day-to-day business and performance of your team of Commodity Buyers from a QDCF standpoint.
Your scope will include, but will not be limited to, managing supplier relationships, cross-functional collaboration, and contributing to supplier negotiation and global segment strategies. Your target? To build a strong, cohesive team of purchasing specialists, drive business excellence, and execute the required change in an industry full of exciting challenges. You will need to be agile, think globally, act locally, and appreciate cross-functional collaboration and global setups.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of Buyers, actively partnering to shape and advance their development
- Manage purchasing QDCF deliverables to support the regional and global business objectives for assigned responsibilities and commodities, ensuring all project sourcing and commodity plans are developed and delivered in a timely manner
- Provide input to and execute segment strategies, and manage supplier selection, relationships, partnerships, and negotiations
- Be a member of the Uptime Conventional Purchasing North America extended leadership team and actively contribute to its development
- Maintain accountability for budget and operating expenses
- Ensure collaboration with managers within the respective segments and regions
- Manage cross-functional interactions with Engineering in development of technical roadmaps, and appoint supplier hosts within your area
- Provide input to department purchasing business plan, with a focus on continuous improvement and sustainability
- Act as a liaison between regions, business units, and other departments that are directly or indirectly related to your segment/commodity
- Work in accordance with Volvo processes, the Code of Conduct, and Volvo Values
What We Are Looking For
- 6+ years of direct people management or functional leadership experience
- Either a strategic purchasing background within heavy manufacturing or an engineering background within the area of scope (i.e. aftermarket parts)
- Ability to execute in a global matrix organization
- Strong business acumen, analytical skills, and a focus on digitalization
- Ability to analyze complex situations and act quickly and decisively
- Works well with cross-functional stakeholders, balancing risks, opportunities and alternative solutions
- Promotes diversity and fosters opportunities for personal and professional development
- Ability to build an effective team with a common objective, strong morale, and team spirit
- University degree in Supply Chain, Engineering/Technology, Business Administration, or similar, or equivalent working experience
- To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
