North America Purchasing is an organization within GTP supporting Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) and Mack brands on the purchasing related activities both on Automotive and indirect purchasing. Supply Network Quality (SNQ) North America is an organization within GTP representing a yearly purchased spend of $2.5B USD.

What You Will Be Doing

We currently have an opening for a Supply Network Quality Manager within our Supply Network Quality (SNQ) organization. In this role, you will drive and manage the performance of your team across Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability, and Risk Management (QDCFTSR) areas. You will lead a team of Supplier Quality Engineers (SQE’s) focused on various commodities, ensuring the selection of the right suppliers and developing a zero-defect mindset throughout part production.

Your mission is to drive activities that support flawless launches, achieving zero quality and capacity issues at all project milestones and launch events. You will also foster strong collaboration between your SQE’s and other Supply Network Quality Managers both regionally and globally, leveraging global knowledge and best practices to strengthen the organization. This position reports to the Director, Head of Supply Network Quality North America, and is based in Greensboro, NC.

Responsibilities will include:

As a Supply Network Quality Manager, you will play a crucial leadership role within the Group Trucks Purchasing Supply Network Quality (SNQ) organization, actively shaping the department's future while driving performance and collaboration across the network.
 

  • Be a key member of the SNQ leadership team, contributing strategically to the development, vision, and success of the department
  • Foster strong collaboration with key stakeholders, especially Engineering and Operations, to ensure a unified strategy is developed, communicated, and driven toward our suppliers
  • Lead and execute SNQ activities in line with defined strategies and targets, ensuring full alignment with business goals
  • Build strong supplier relationships through continuous engagement to assess risks proactively and apply effective solutions for supplier process and product development
  • Ensure that the best suppliers are selected through a collaborative, cross-functional approach with Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations teams
  • Drive risk elimination across the supply base using structured tools, methodologies, and available resources
  • Develop reliable and robust supplier readiness plans covering all phases of the product and process development cycle, including Sourcing, APQP, Run at Rate, PPAP, and Launch Support
  • Ensure quality, capacity, and cost targets are consistently achieved, and key performance indicators (KPI’s) are met or exceeded
  • Facilitate clear, timely communication with all cross-functional teams to drive alignment and project success
  • Evaluate, coach, and develop team members, building skills and capabilities to meet current and future business needs
  • Secure and manage necessary resources within your area of responsibility
  • Manage and be accountable for operating expenses within your scope
  • Operate in strict adherence to Volvo’s processes, Code of Conduct, and Core Values
  • Lead interactions with Engineering teams to support the development of technical roadmaps and ensure comprehensive data readiness for supplier selection committees and decision boards

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain quality, supplier development, and/or production operations, with a strong focus on working with suppliers to improve performance
  • Preferred experience in the automotive or heavy commercial vehicle industries, especially in areas such as plant supplier quality, APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) implementation, manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or crisis management
  • At least 3 years of experience leading people, either directly or through functional leadership (e.g. leading project teams or cross-functional initiatives)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues early and drive effective solutions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across different functions and levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to take ownership and manage projects through to successful completion
  • Bachelor’s degree in either Engineering or Supply Chain Management, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status 

 

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Experience working in a global organization and collaborating across different regions and cultures
  • Hands-on experience with APQP processes, supplier audits, risk management tools, and launch readiness activities
  • Certifications such as Lean Six Sigma, CQE (Certified Quality Engineer), or CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management)
  • Proven track record in leading continuous improvement initiatives within a supply base or production environment
  • Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g. machining, casting, plastics, or electronics — depending on commodity)
  • Working knowledge of quality standards such as IATF 16949 or ISO 9001
