What you will do

As an AI Engineering Intern based in our Greensboro, North Carolina office, you will gain hands-on experience developing AI-powered solutions that address real business challenges across VFS North America. Working alongside experienced AI engineers, developers, and technology professionals, you will explore how artificial intelligence and Generative AI can be applied in an enterprise environment, from early experimentation and prototyping through development, testing, and deployment.

During your internship, you will have the opportunity to contribute to one or more AI initiatives under the guidance of experienced mentors, giving you real-world experience building solutions and working directly with technical teams and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze datasets to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities that support AI solutions and business decision-making.
  • Design, develop, and prototype AI and Generative AI solutions that address business problems, improve processes, and enhance user experiences.
  • Work with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand requirements, translate business needs into technical solutions, and ensure AI initiatives deliver meaningful business value.
  • Test and evaluate AI solutions for accuracy, reliability, and effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and help optimize solution performance.
  • Develop supporting applications, integrations, scripts, and utilities using programming languages such as Python, C#, JavaScript, or similar technologies when appropriate.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for AI solutions, including development activities, prompts, workflows, evaluation results, and implementation details.
  • Participate in a collaborative, iterative development environment using modern software development practices and tools.
  • Present project updates, demonstrations, findings, and completed solutions to business stakeholders and technical leadership.
  • Explore emerging AI technologies and development practices and identify opportunities to improve solution quality, reliability, and business value.

Who are you?

  • You have a passion for artificial intelligence and are excited to explore how Generative AI can solve real-world business problems.
  • You have hands-on experience with AI technologies through coursework, personal projects, research, hackathons, or previous internships. Experience with Generative AI tools, APIs, or AI-powered applications is a plus.
  • You have experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or similar, and understand the importance of writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • You enjoy learning new technologies, experimenting with new ideas, and continuously improving your technical skills.
  • You are naturally curious, enjoy solving complex problems, and can think critically to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • You are detail-oriented, organized, and take ownership of your work from concept through completion.
  • You communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and enjoy collaborating with technical and business teams.
  • You are patient, approachable, and enjoy sharing knowledge while learning from others.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical discipline at an accredited institution and have completed at least 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship.
  • Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
  • This is an on-site internship based in our Greensboro, North Carolina office. Interns are expected to work from the office in accordance with VFS North America’s in-office work policy. Occasional work-from-home flexibility may be available with leader approval.
  • Spring interns may work up to 30 hours per week.

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $17.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
