About the Role

The AI/ML intern position will be part of the Demand and Inventory Planning (DIP) /Operational Planning (OP) North America team within the Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) organization. You will support the Demand and Inventory Planning team by integrating AI infrastructure within a supply chain domain. The SCO internship role provides you with the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to promote your career goals through contact with professionals in your field of study. The internship experience enables you to participate in professional activities for Volvo Group Service Market Logistics by working on projects for the SCO NA group.  

Internships are structured learning experiences where interns and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. The internship allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Group Service Market Logistics. 

What you will do

  • Lead research into implementation of AI/ML based forecasting models & benchmarking against current forecasting models 
  • Apply machine learning techniques and statistical analysis to identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns within large, complex datasets to support predictive modeling and data-driven decision-making. 
  • Support feature engineering, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and model performance validation to enhance non-time series based predictive insights for supply chain optimization. 
  • Leverage Python, R and advanced analytics tools and techniques to visualize demand and inventory data in support of supply chain parameter changes. 
  • Support the team in fostering an AI/ML-driven culture by promoting data-centric decision-making, assisting in experimentation with machine learning solutions, and encouraging the adoption of best practices. 

Profesional Objectives:

  • Weekly writing Assignments: Brief written summaries of the learning experiences and project updates may be required
  • Project Presentations: Formal project presentations may be required to be presented to peers, management, and senior leaders within the organization
  • Performance Feedback: Throughout the entire experience, the manager will provide verbal and written feedback on work performance

Who are you?

  • Have a strong knowledge of AI implementation  
  • Have a working knowledge of supply chain knowledge to identify processes within the Demand Planning team with a scope of implementing Artificial Intelligence. 
  • Understanding of ML supervised and unsupervised learning with ML models(Regressions, Decision Trees, Neural Network etc.)  is essential. 
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in an accredited school.
  • Applicants must have completed 30 semester hours before the internship starts and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
 

Other Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's, Master's or PhD (preferred) degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics or related engineering field
  • Strong programming skills in Python
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and atttention to detail

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in SQL annd experience with relational database systems
  • Completed major AI/ML project
  • Working knowledge of Azure cloud platform

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $17.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
