The Communications and Responsible Purchasing intern role within Group Trucks Purchasing North America provides the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment. The purchasing department is responsible for continuously improving the supplier base to meet the needs of our customers and meet our Volvo Group sustainability goals. In this role you will be supporting the Communications and Responsible Purchasing Director.
This internship will be based onsite at our Greensboro, NC location, and will run from May 19th - August 8th, 2025. Interns may be eligible for a monthly housing stipend under certain circumstances.
What You WIll Be Doing
- Monitoring and reporting on the North America Purchasing sustainability journey
- Gather input on team progress on targeted sustainability initiatives, including decarbonization and supplier assessment
- Data visualization: Create visually appealing and informative communications (dashboards, reports, presentations, videos, panels) to effectively communicate data findings to stakeholders and support decision-making processes
- Research applicable regulatory developments for our supplier base, including resources and training opportunities
- Collaborative projects: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including purchasing professionals, the global Communication and Responsible Purchasing teams, and sustainability and communications colleagues in other business areas, and supplier quality engineers to contribute to data-driven projects and provide analytical support in problem-solving initiatives
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Supply Chain/Logistics, Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field, with a focus on Sustainability being an advantage. Your degree must be at an accredited school, and you need to have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship.
- Must be either a Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student at the start of your internship
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
- Summer interns may work up to 40 hours per week and must be enrolled as a student
What We Are Looking For
- Someone with a passion for Sustainability and an interest to work within Purchasing
- Skilled in Power BI, Power Automate, and Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
- Strong analytical skills with a solid understanding of statistical concepts and data analysis techniques
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to approach complex business problems analytically
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
