Who we are

If you want to be apart of an exciting Management Reporting and Business Intelligence team where you can drive and execute on goals for the Volvo Truck and Mack Truck Brand, come join us! Additionally, you will be engaged within the advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives focused on commercial areas, assisting other data analysts located in different departments as well as be part of initiatives with data scientists already working connected to the Management Reporting and BI team. We Aim to apply advanced data analytics to improve how we sell and service the market.

For this position it is preferable for candidates to be on site for at least 2 – 3 days per week working up to 30 hours a week during the Spring 2025 semester with the specific working schedule to be agreed upon with the hiring manager. 
 

What you will do

The Intern - Data Scientist is responsible for working in a multi-brand environment, providing reports and advanced analytics across multiple departments and dealers, helping improve sales forecast, pricing, product configuration, process mining, and pipeline management among other aspects of the commercial operation. The data scientist will:

•    Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
•    Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, sales & marketing, and business strategies.
•    Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
•    Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
•    Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, ad targeting and other business outcomes.
•    Develop company A/B testing framework and test model quality.
•    Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
•    Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy
 

Who are you?

  • Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or PHD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics or a similar quantitative field and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship
  • You must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
  • Spring interns may work up to 30 hours per week

Critical competencies will include:

•    Knowledge of Python, SQL, and Spark to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets
•    Basic knowledge of machine learning techniques (Clustering, Tree-Based Methods, Neural Networks, etc.)
•    Statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests, etc.)
•    Determined to deliver high-quality work
•    Must have good energy, a positive attitude, and thrive in creative thinking 
•    Real problem solver and confident to make decisions
•    Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on data product development.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
•    A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
•    Self-starter with ability to prioritize critical tasks, as well as deliver on assignments within deadlines

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
