The GTP Legal and Compliance Team is a critical part of the infrastructure that provides mission-critical support to the flow of these parts, goods, equipment, and services. What You Will Be Doing
We are recruiting for a Legal and Compliance Counsel to the GTP Legal and Compliance Department, and the location of this position can be in either Greensboro, NC or Santa Fe, Mexico. The successful candidate will report to the AGC/Head of Legal & Compliance Strategic Development within GTP. The work will require traveling internationally (US/Mexico/Europe) from time to time, although not extensively.
The Legal and Compliance Counsel’s focus will be to provide support to GTP’s operations and our colleagues within GTP, US and global, with also a specific focus towards the building of, and upcoming operations through, our new manufacturing plant located in Monterrey, Mexico.
Activities and responsibilities will include:
- Provide professional legal advice and support for GTP’s daily business operations, including drafting and negotiating purchase and supply agreements, IT agreements (e.g., SaaS software licenses, etc.), and development agreements
- Develop expertise in compliance-related topics such as data privacy, anti-corruption laws, and other regulations relevant to global supply chains
- Provide legal support with respect to disputes and threats involving suppliers or other external entities, ensuring efficient and effective solutions to safeguard GTP’s interests
- Collaborate with stakeholders and other subject matter experts, both inside and outside of the legal function. Subjects might include, by way of example only, intellectual property matters, supplier distress or insolvency, customs-related issues, export control, and environmental compliance matters.
- Prepare and conduct internal training on legal and compliance topics, with such offerings to be available to relevant internal business stakeholders
- Collaborate with legal counsel colleagues globally to address cross-border legal challenges, align on consistent strategies, and share insights to improve efficiency and outcomes
- Lead and oversee dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation with a focus on cost control and managing external counsel
- Leverage emerging technology and stay informed about technological advancements that can streamline processes, improve legal services, and address compliance challenges
What We Are Looking For
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school. A member in good standing of any State bar within the United States.
- Legal degree (Licenciatura en Derecho) and valid license to practice law in Mexico
- Proficiency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal)
- Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant legal experience as a licensed attorney, either in a law firm or as an in-house counsel. Experience with international or cross-border legal matters is highly preferred.
- High proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex agreements with solid experience and knowledge in contract law, commercial law (e.g. U.C.C. and CISG), and compliance concepts
- Experience advising on anti-corruption laws, data privacy regulations, and other compliance topics relevant to global supply chains
- Adaptable and enthusiastic about embracing change in a dynamic environment, thriving in uncertainty, and leveraging new opportunities
- Distinctive problem-solving skills with a focus on Volvo Group’s commercial interest
- Inquisitive, professional, accountable, and proactive with a “can do” mindset and a willingness to continuously improve
- Ability to work independently and in teams, with colleagues of different cultures and backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams, bridging cultural and language differences
- Exceptional time management and organization skills with the ability to balance and prioritize matters in a fast-paced and demanding environment, preferably with a sense of humor and the resilience to handle unexpected turns with grace
