Project Manager Quality, Chassis Engineering

What you will do

As Project Manager Quality you will lead Quality Management activities of the Chassis Engineering department for Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks. You will be responsible for understanding customer, market, business, and technology requirements and have a holistic view of both proactive and reactive quality tools and processes. You will collaborate with the cross-functional teams to improve quality of the product and address customer issues in a timely manner. 

 

Proactive Quality 

  • Drive the use of Quality tools (DFA, FMEA, etc.) during the development of new product 
  • Ensure the Quality tools are implemented during the right stages of the product development process 
  • Provide reports of Quality tools status to project stakeholders and escalate issues or support as needed 
  • Support the risk management strategy which is focused on early risk identification and mitigation. 
  • Secure continuous improvement opportunities for the department. 

 

Reactive Quality 

  • Monitor and analyze the trend of Quality KPIs and Customer Product Issues (CPIs) against company targets and objectives 
  • Lead CPI activities with support from cross functional stakeholders 
  • Utilize Project Management skills and 8D methodology, create solid action plans to complete CPIs within department targets 
  • Support team to identify root cause of issues using various problem-solving tools (e.g. 5 Whys technique, Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams) 
  • Document lessons learned from Customer Issues to support quality tools activities for future product changes 

 

The position will report to the Group Manager – Chassis Project Management Office (PMO) and will be located in Greensboro, NC.

Our team, Chassis & Vehicle Dynamics Engineering, develops and maintains components, systems, and complete chassis solutions for diesel, electric, and autonomous vehicles for Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks in the North American market.

Who are you?

You are an experienced project manager who has a passion for both Quality and being part of the transformation within the transportation industry. You are an excellent communicator with strong presentation skills. 

 

Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field 
  • Master’s degree and/or PMP® certification preferred 
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering and project management 
  • OEM experience within commercial vehicles or heavy industrial equipment 
  • Significant Experience with DFA and FMEA Quality tools 
  • Familiar with Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma 
  • Experience in Structured Problem Solving (8D)  
  • Solid awareness of Agile/SAFe 
  • Ability to travel, as needed
