What you will do

Our Product Design team plays a vital role in helping to shape a best-in-class Mack Trucks experience. As the Senior SMF Designer, you’ll bring self-driven, imaginative leadership to understand business needs, transform insights into action, and deliver desirable, measurable, and impactful experiences for Mack customers. 

 

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) Design Process: Oversee the full lifecycle—from trend research and forecasting to strategy development and production execution—for both the interior and exterior of Mack vehicles.
  • Drive CMF Vision and Innovation: Develop and champion a compelling CMF vision that aligns with product design strategy and strengthens the Mack brand identity.
  • Research and Apply Trends: Analyze material innovations, competitive landscapes, cultural influences, human factors, and consumer data to ensure customer-focused and future-forward CMF solutions.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with engineering, product, and brand teams to ensure cohesive design direction and successful implementation of CMF strategies.
  • Partner with Suppliers: Manage global supplier relationships to ensure high-quality, impactful production of CMF elements.
  • Visualize and Present Design Solutions: Create and present compelling CMF strategies and visual concepts for current and future product lines—both physical and digital.
  • Ensure Design Feasibility and Quality: Balance innovation with feasibility, ensuring all solutions are producible and meet high standards of quality.
  • Maintain Industry Expertise: Stay up to date on trends, technologies, and customer needs to continuously evolve the CMF offering.
  • Support Product and Brand Consistency: Help guide product and brand experiences through effective communication of the design vision and timely decision-making materials.
  • Lead 3D & Physical Model Development: Leadthe CMF vision for both digital visualizations and physical prototypes.
  • Support Design Quality Management: Assist the Design Quality Manager in ensuring CMF design outputs meet quality and project requirements on time.
  • Oversee Sample Development: Initiate and manage the creation of master samples, ensuring surface materials meet desired quality levels.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of industrial experience as CMF designer.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Automotive/transport experience is a plus.
