What you will do
The Senior Electrical Manufacturing Engineer (known internally as Technical Preparation Engineer (TPE)) in Group Trucks Operations Quality and Engineering (GTO Q&E) secures that Group Trucks Technology (GTT) delivers a product that is verified & aligned with Volvo Production System and the Industrial Master Plan. The Sr. TPE will establish clear and commonly shared product requirements for one’s dedicated area of responsibility.
The Sr. TPE must effectively coordinate and trigger activities of Manufacturing Engineers within Group Trucks Operations (GTO). To secure that product changes are introduced in the industrial system without disturbance, according to set targets.
Core Responsibilities
The TPE assumes the responsibilities for the roles in which he/she has proven or taken the senior role in:
- Leads Liaison activities between GTT engineering and the GTO production engineering ensuring that manufacturing requirements are implemented into new product designs.
- Review, participate in, ensure production readiness, and co-ordinate implementation of new designs and changes through the production implementation stages.
- Assures compliance with all applicable manufacturing policies and procedures relating to his/her area of responsibility.
- Responsible of Virtual Manufacturing Simulations (Product Assembly, Ergonomics, Tooling & Equipment, along with Kinematic analysis) to propose improvement of assembly sequences and overall manufacturing processes
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Represent GTO towards GTT product engineering in area of responsibility
- Set technical requirements on product (incl. process related) and approve technical solutions
- Pronounce technical ok prior to the approval of product structure launch into downstream systems
- Drive the resolution of product issues identified in project phase
- Act as GTO PM by delegation of GTO Project organization
This role description targets to describe a maturity level within the TPE function that can be obtained through demonstration over time of more elevated tasks that are/have been assigned to a TPE such as (but not limited to):
- TPE expertise into a very specific area seen as business critical (e.g. routing & clipping)
- Global component ownership (e.g Control Units, Main Harnesses)
- Demonstrated ability to be a lead TPE in major start cost project
- Demonstrated ability to act as GTO commodity PM in start cost
- Demonstrated ability to have contributed significantly to the TPE way of working across competence area’s or is a major reference in product and process strategies.

- Decrease assembly time and standard cost of sales
- Enhance ergonomics and assembly environment
- Increase manufacturing flexibility
- Implement physical module strategy
- Timely delivery of Technical Preparation documentation.
Minimum Education and Experience Required
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering with, generally, experience equivalent to 5 or more years of progressive automotive experience.
Additional Skills
- Knowledge of Volvo Manufacturing/Engineering Systems (SPRINT, KOLA, DIS)
- Knowledge of Volvo product/manufacturing
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge and Techniques
- Capacity to work with technical drawings and conceptualize manufacturing solutions
- Be proficient on CAD tools (CreoView and/or Catia is preferred)
- Knowledge of productivity improvement tools and methods
