What you will do

Volvo Group Connected Solutions in Greensboro, NC is looking for candidates for the position of Software Engineer. Connected Solutions is a global organization within Volvo Group focused on creating the services of tomorrow. We work at the forefront of connectivity by collecting and analyzing telematics data from over one million Volvo assets. This way we can forecast the future and help customers succeed, while increasing the safety, quality, and sustainability of Volvo Group products. Consumer Services is the function within Connected Solutions that is responsible for the end-user services, from idea to development to production. We work in tight collaboration with the Volvo Group Business Areas and customers. We drive and manage the performance of the services and the business areas’ portfolios over the lifecycle. Together with our stakeholders, we create value through fantastic user experience and business enhancing services and products. 

 

We are looking for a Software Engineer who has experience in developing solutions and seeks to use those skills immediately in real world projects on a team dedicated to adding business value to some of the strongest brands within the automotive and transportation industry. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be tasked with performing many of the development activities during the exploration of the new technologies. Responsibilities will include technology assessment, system design, proof-of-technology development, sharing of information and learnings, all while working in a fast-paced environment. Work in a team centric environment where a culture of innovation allows your input and ideas to become part of the solution. Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver on a backlog of project work, develop plan for delivering on commitments, and then execute on those plans following agile methodologies. 

 

Main Responsibilities 

  • Work within a project team that delivers high-quality products in an Agile delivery environment (SCRUM) 
  • Interact with customers and development team to gather and define requirements• Analyze user stories for validity and feasibility 
  • Conduct impact analysis and create estimates 
  • Develop component and service designs for Telematics solutions of medium to high complexity 
  • Develop effective, defect free source code that meets business requirements and team standards. 
  • Contribute to complex integrated designs with the Global Telematics platform 
  • Contribute to technical alternatives for complex business problems and roadmaps. 
  • Develop unit test cases to verify code 
  • Participate, and support in all levels of testing (System, Integration, Regression, Load, and Performance) 
  • Perform design review to help identify coding defects, discrepancies in requirements and help resolve issues with appropriate developers, partners, and stakeholders. 
  • Plans work out appropriately, proactively escalates issues that may impact scope, schedule, and budget. 
  • Develop production support documentation and provide support for production issues 
  • Participates and supports release process 
  • Participates in the development and support of Deployment tools and standard procedures. 
  • Identify changes that make the system(s) more efficient and/or reduces operations or maintenance costs. 
  • Identify and contribute to the optimization and continuous improvement of group’s Way of Working. 
  • Mentor and support new developers and junior developers.  

Who are you?

  • 7+ years of practical experience. 
  • 4+ years developing with CCSDK and deploying with Overseer. 
  • 3+ years of front end Javascript Framework development experience, React experienced preferred. 
  • 3+ years of systems analysis and design experience, Figma experience preferred. 
  • 5+ years delivering solutions as a member of an agile team. 
  • Experience working with systems that have high volume backend transactions. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, manage simultaneous projects, and provide consultative skills throughout the process. 
  • Experience working in and navigating a highly matrixed organization. 
  • Experience in Telematics is a plus. 
  • Extensive knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, methodologies, architecture and technical standards. 
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience with layered system architectures and layered solutions, understanding of shared software concepts. 
  • Experience designing and developing high availability front-end solutions. 
  • Experience and expertise using Kingbolt and Gerrit. 
  • Expertise in multiple programming languages, design tools, and development tools with focus in Javascript, React, Java, SQL, Figma, Postgres, Quicksight, JIRA, Confluence, VS Code 
  • Ability to coach others and navigate through complex systems 
  • Ability to both provide simple, innovative solutions and clearly explain those solutions to others. 
  • Experience working in an Agile environment. 
  • Proficiency in understanding and adopting new and emerging technologies. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; presentation skills. 

 

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $111,100.00 - $137,200.00 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
