Co-Op: Maintenance Engineer - Electrical (Spring 2026)

What you will do

In this role, you will play a key part in the initiative to build an industrial maintenance organization and make an impact on equipment uptime to enable production to support our customers. You will learn best practices, identify root causes of equipment failures, and implement process and equipment design changes to reduce unplanned downtime.

We are a team that works to ensure our production equipment is available to produce good quality parts at the necessary rate to achieve production goals. This is accomplished by implementing and executing equipment restoration, reactive and proactive maintenance strategies, and by optimizing equipment design. Maintenance is more than responding to when equipment fails – we strive to take the necessary steps so that failures are prevented before they can occur.

The maintenance team is on a journey to become a world-class organization by implementing best practices and investing in our human resources.

This position will be based at our Kings Mountain Operations manufacturing site in Kings Mountain, NC

Role Description/ Responsibilities

  • Develop precision job plans for routine, complex, and proactive maintenance tasks specifying tasks, tools, resources, parts required to complete, and time estimates 
  • Proactive maintenance strategy development to reduce unplanned downtime – including preventative and predictive techniques and autonomous (operator-driven) maintenance activities 
  • Determine opportunities for design changes to improve equipment reliability, design/collaborate with engineering to implement and using data to measure improvement 
  • Review, prioritize, plan, and coordinate with maintenance supervisors for ad-hoc and routine maintenance activities to ensure safe work and minimal production interruptions 
  • Lead root cause analysis activities for downtime/quality/rate deviations – identify problem and impact, determine root cause utilizing 5 why/fishbone techniques and implement necessary preventative actions 
  • Reduce costs through optimization of maintenance tasks and equipment reliability enhancements 

Who are you?

We are looking for candidates with the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Working towards a B.S. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Office 365, Power Automate, Power BI skills preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD programs
  • Analytics skills or experience a plus
  • Ability to design basic electrical circuits and experience with PLC a plus
