E-Coat Operator

As an E-Coat Operator, you will hold a very important role in the Kings Mountain Operations (KMO) facility. In this role, you’ll load and unload cabs safely, oversee dip and spray stages for full coverage, monitor oven curing for proper adhesion and finish, and maintain process parameters to meet Volvo Group’s strict quality standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Add and adjust chemical solutions, paint materials, and deionize water levels to maintain each stage of the E-Coat process within precise operating specifications.
• Monitor and maintain the performance of the multi-stage pre-treatment, electrocoat, verifying temperature, flow rate, and pressure settings meet established standards.
• Clean, dump, and recharge tanks, replace filters, and perform routine maintenance to prevent contamination and ensure system reliability.
• Accurately record all test results, process changes, and system performance data in both written logs and computer-based tracking systems for quality assurance and compliance.
• Manage and maintain adequate inventory levels of chemicals, spare parts, and maintenance tools, coordinating with suppliers as needed to prevent downtime.
• Collaborate closely with internal production, maintenance, and quality teams, as well as external vendors, to identify and resolve process issues promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area in accordance with 5S and environmental, health, and safety standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned to sustain coating quality, equipment uptime, and overall process efficiency.
Required Qualifications (Education, Skills, & Experience):
• High School Diploma or GED
• Strong ability to troubleshoot issues with mechanical equipment.
• Proficient in performing basic mathematical calculations and using data to analyze, interpret, and adjust processes as needed to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Familiarity with general safety practices, including OSHA regulations, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
• Proficient computer skills for data entry, system monitoring, and recordkeeping.
• High attention to detail to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to process specifications.
Preferred Qualifications (if applicable):
• Experience in electrocoating and chemical analysis preferred.
• Previous forklift driving experience or certification preferred; ability to safely operate material handling equipment within a production environment is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate documentation.
Physical Requirements:
• Regularly required to lift and carry components weighing up to 50 lbs; team lift or equipment used for heavier items.
• Must be able to climb vertical ladders up to 6 feet in height
• Able to perform fine motor skills associated with lab testing
Work Environment/Conditions:
• Regular exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and occasional exposure to fumes, dust, or extreme temperatures.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching.
• Schedule may include early morning, evening, or weekend shifts based on production needs. Overtime may be required during high volume periods.
• May be designated as essential personnel during plant operational disruptions, planned shutdowns, or emergencies.
