Who We Are

Powertrain Engineering (PE) is part of Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT), a division of Volvo Group North America, provide state-of-the-art research, engineering, product planning and project execution to final delivery of complete products and support of the products in the aftermarket. PE is responsible to develop and maintain products and product components of the complete driveline. It also includes Group Truck Technology’s center of development and expertise for Hydrogen solutions.

What you will be doing

As An Aftertreatment Engineer Co-op you will have the opportunity to work on technologies that reduce emissions to comply with EPA and CARB regulations. The scope includes hardware design, function calibration, OBD calibration, and system verification. The team’s overall goal is to produce aftertreatment systems which are emissions compliant while offering minimal mission interruptions and maximum product value to our customers.

 

Responsibilities: 
•    Support diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) ammonia slip catalyst (ASC), and other related technologies.
•    Support component design, verification, and release activities.
•    Support function and OBD calibration activities.
•    Support system aging evaluations and analysis.
•    Work closely with team members, other groups, other sites, and suppliers.
•    Report Generation and data analysis
•    Support chassis and/or test cell work and/or bench testing
•    Generate and prepare design work orders and design reviews 
•    Collect, collate, and maintain design review data
•    Define/coordinate prototype part control plan (what is to be measured by supplier)
•    Manage purchase requisition through authorization process
•    Coordinate component specific test: Instrumentation request, test location, Test Tech Coordination, (GHOST) and collect data 
•    Analyze test data for Engineer review
•    Synthesize component durability test hours (in cell or on bench)
•    Define, coordinate, and analyze component measurements for Engineer review
•    Data input and information extraction from electronic systems (eg., KOLA, TIKA…) 
•    Document detailed component related information

Who You Are

You are an Engineering student that is prepared to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment, gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of engineering (or mechanical, electrical, software, design, production, etc.).  As a valued member of the engineering team within GTT, you will have the opportunity to work directly with the engineers in the department.  GTT’s values collaboration and life-long learning and our goal is to contribute to your development while providing you an opportunity to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry.  You will report to Aftertreatment group manager.

 

Requirements:
•    Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree, B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Programing, Software Engineering, or equivalent, at an accredited school, a sophomore and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the Co-op position.
•    Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
•    Coursework focusing on engines, chemistry, controls, and systems preferred
•    Co-ops are not enrolled in academic courses during their co-op rotation and may work up to 40 hours per week

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
