North America Purchasing is an organization within GTP supporting Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) and Mack brands on the purchasing related activities both on Automotive and indirect purchasing. Supply Network Quality (SNQ) North America is an organization within GTP representing a yearly purchased spend of $2.5B USD.

What You Will Be Doing

We currently have an opening for a Supply Network Quality Manager – Powertrain Commodity (Volvo & Mack Diesel Engines) within our Supply Network Quality (SNQ) organization. In this role, you will drive and manage the performance of your team across Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability, and Risk Management (QDCFTSR) areas. You will lead a team of Supplier Quality Engineers (SQE’s) focused on Powertrain components, ensuring the selection of the right suppliers and developing a zero-defect mindset ensuring the selection of capable suppliers and developing a zero-defect mindset throughout part production and launch.

Your mission is to drive activities that support flawless launches, achieving zero quality and capacity issues at all project milestones and launch events. You will also foster strong collaboration between your SQE’s and other SNQ Managers regionally and globally, leveraging best practices to strengthen the organization.

This position reports to the Director, Head of Supply Network Quality North America, and will be based in Hagerstown, MD.

Responsibilities:

As a hands-on Supply Network Quality (SNQ) Manager, you will play a critical leadership role within the Group Trucks Purchasing SNQ organization, directly influencing supplier performance and driving alignment across Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations. You will be responsible for both strategic direction and day-to-day execution to ensure supplier readiness, product quality, and flawless launches. This role requires regular supplier engagement, including domestic and international travel of approximately 20%, which may increase depending on the project phase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier selection and sourcing readiness, ensuring only capable and competitive suppliers are nominated through cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations
  • Develop and execute supplier readiness plans covering the full product and process development cycle, including technical sourcing assessments, process audits, PFMEA validation, APQP tracking, Run at Rate execution, PPAP approval, and launch support
  • Drive proactive risk identification and mitigation across the supply base using structured tools and methodologies, ensuring alignment with Volvo’s quality, cost, and delivery targets
  • Lead hands-on supplier development efforts, conducting on-site assessments, coaching suppliers, and implementing improvement actions to close gaps in quality and manufacturing maturity
  • Foster strong, ongoing supplier relationships, ensuring consistent engagement, issue resolution, and continuous improvement throughout the lifecycle of the partnership
  • Collaborate closely with Powertrain Engineering and Manufacturing teams to influence product design, manufacturing feasibility, and technical roadmap alignment
  • Translate business goals into clear SNQ strategies and execution plans, ensuring alignment across functions and consistent deployment at supplier level
  • Monitor and drive performance to meet or exceed KPI’s, including quality performance, capacity assurance, and delivery metrics
  • Coach, develop, and empower your SQE team members, building technical expertise and leadership capability to support both current projects and long-term organizational goals
  • Manage operational resources effectively, including ownership of departmental budget and expense tracking
  • Operate in strict adherence to Volvo’s Code of Conduct, internal processes, and core values, setting the example for ethical and professional behavior

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of experience in supply chain quality, supplier development, or production operations, with a strong focus on supplier performance improvements
  • At least 3 years of experience leading people directly or through functional leadership (e.g., cross-functional or project teams)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues early and implement effective solutions
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills across diverse functions
  • Proven ability to take ownership and deliver complex projects to successful completion
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in global organizations and across multiple regions
  • Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, supplier audits, risk management, and launch readiness activities
  • Certifications such as Lean Six Sigma, CQE, or CPIM
  • Proven success leading continuous improvement initiatives in a supplier or manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 standards

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $128,300 - $158,500 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
