The Opportunity
We are at a pivotal moment in our history. As Volvo CE continues to evolve toward a more dynamic, network-based, and mission-driven organization, we are looking for a people-oriented Head of Environmental Sustainability in Operations.
Sustainability at Volvo CE focuses on Climate, Resources, and People. In this role, you will help drive our transition toward more circular, resilient, and low-carbon operations while ensuring compliance and long-term business value. Together with cross-functional teams and global networks, you will strengthen our sustainability capabilities and support the integration of sustainable practices into everyday operations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership for a Network Organization
• People-oriented leader with strong collaboration and facilitation skills, able to create engagement and drive progress across networks and mission-based teams.
• Enable collaboration across functions and sites to identify sustainability priorities and support implementation across Operations.
• Represent Operations in sustainability forums within Volvo CE, the Volvo Group, and external stakeholder networks, clearly articulating how our network model delivers long-term value.
• Develop frameworks, tools, and ways of working that help teams measure, track, and improve sustainability performance.
• Strengthen sustainability knowledge and engagement across Operations through learning, communication, and practical support.
• Lead the roadmap for Scope 1 and 2, emissions reductions, supporting the transition toward renewable energy and more energy-efficient manufacturing processes.
• Monitor emerging sustainability trends, technologies, and regulatory developments, and collaborate with external partners, universities, and industry networks.
Who You Are
You are a collaborative and people-oriented leader who enjoys working across functions, cultures, and perspectives. You are comfortable driving change in evolving organizations and know how to create engagement across teams without relying on formal authority.
You understand how complex manufacturing networks operate and can translate sustainability ambitions into practical actions and business value.
You combine operational understanding with sustainability knowledge and are comfortable working with ESG data, LCA metrics, and operational performance indicators.
Qualifications
Must Have
- Master or Bachelor degree in Environmental engineering, Sustainability or similar
- Strong collaboration, facilitation and stakeholder management skills in global environments
- Experience driving change and transformation initiatives
- Understanding of sustainability frameworks such as GHG Protocol, ISO 14001, global regulatory frameworks (e.g., CSRD, EU taxonomy), or circular economy principles
- Experience within industrial operations, manufacturing, supply chain, or sustainability
Valuable Experience
- Experience with LCA, ESG data, or emissions reporting
- Experience from agile, matrix, or network-based organizations
- Knowledge of manufacturing decarbonization, energy transition, circularity
- Knowledge of water-management and biodiversity
