Assistant Manager, Industry & Body Build Support

Volvo Bus Asia Pacific is one of the leading clusters within Volvo Bus Corporation (VBC) and has a proud history of profitability and growth. It is responsible for Bus vehicle and Service sales business, partnership with Volvo’s own and private importers, key customers and body build partners, and progress of the Volvo Buses total business within the region.

 

We are looking for a well-qualified individual to join the Volvo Bus Asia Pacific (APAC) North team as Assistant Manager, Industry & Body Build Support.

 

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

 

Reporting to the Director, Volvo Bus Asia Pacific North, the Assistant Manager, Industry & Body Build Support has overall industry and body build responsibilities for key markets across the APAC North region that includes Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, South Korea and China:

  • Responsible for compliance, management, and support of bodybuilders
  • Ensure effective working relationship through regular visits to bodybuilders partners
  • Support CKD (Complete Knock Down) operations
  • Responsible for new model and new chassis products in various markets
  • Responsible for supporting and managing local homologation requirements
  • Engineering support for APAC North sales & services functions

The role is also expected to support markets in APAC Central including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia when required.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Distribute and communicate Volvo chassis integration and standards to all body build partners
  • Conduct training (in-person or remote) for body builders related to quality management, introduction of new chassis product and training on chassis-to-body interface
  • Review and approve new body designs submitted by Volvo’s body build partners
  • Conduct audits and inspections of relevant bodybuilders
  • Liaise with VBC and bodybuilders on all aspects of body build literature and build requirements
  • Ensure and maintain a high level of technical expertise for Bus products, with particular focus on electronics
  • Conduct visits and audits, and provide support to Volvo’s CKD (complete knock down) facilities across market within the region
  • Monitor quality through regular body builder visits whilst offering support for technical issues
  • Provide sales function and dealers with Volvo chassis technical information and performance data
  • Support Sales function in selling vehicles into the markets
  • Support Service function with technical enquires, issues and support
  • Provide dealers and customers with chassis information and instructions
  • Ensure compliance with Volvo Commercial Vehicles Environmental Policy, Quality Assurance System and Workplace Health & Safety requirements
  • Take steps and precautions to protect or minimize harm to the workplace, employees, and the environment
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

 

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in body build, technical, engineering, or related field, preferably in the bus or heavy vehicle industry
  • Extensive knowledge of bodybuilding methods and practices (multiplexing, chassis integration, etc.), technical knowledge or background in bus or heavy vehicle is preferred.
  • Proven track record of cooperation with global body builders and partners.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to manage and deliver projects on time with quality and precision
  • Knowledge of relevant design & use regulations relative to bus products
  • Business/customer focused with a drive for results and ability to focus/prioritize tasks
  • Adaptability and flexibility to perform a range of tasks, respond positively to changes in priorities. Willing to accept new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence, develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills in English language, verbal and written. Ability in other local languages will be a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Ability to work successfully in a global organization and intercultural context. Previous Asian experience is an advantage
  • Frequent travel throughout region is expected

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a technical, engineering, or related field
  • Experience working with productivity tools (MS Office, Excel & PowerPoint) and technical engineering tools/programs

  • Located at Volvo Bus Hong Kong Office
  • Travel is required according to business needs
