Maintenance Engineer BIW Mechanical
Hosakote, IN, 562122
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Job Purpose
To ensure maximum uptime, reliability, and performance of BIW production equipment, robotic welding systems, conveyors, fixtures, and automation systems used in truck manufacturing, while meeting safety, quality, cost, and production targets.
Your future team
You will be part of the BIW maintenance organization, working closely with production, quality, engineering, and automation specialists in a safety-first environment focused on stable operations and continuous improvement.
Who are you?
Do you dream big? We do too, and we are excited to grow together.
In this role,
- you will bring strong hands-on experience maintaining BIW equipment and robotic welding lines in an automotive or commercial vehicle manufacturing environment.
- You have solid troubleshooting capability across industrial robots (such as ABB, Fanuc, or KUKA) and automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, VFDs, and industrial networks.
- You work methodically under production pressure, apply problem-solving tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, and FMEA to eliminate recurring losses, and actively contribute to improving OEE, MTBF, and MTTR.
- You lead by example in safety and compliance, including LOTO, electrical safety, machine guarding, and relevant environmental requirements.
- BE/B.Tech degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering supports your technical foundation, along with 8 to 10 years of relevant experience; experience specifically in robotic welding and BIW maintenance is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance on BIW equipment including robotic spot welding stations, MIG welding equipment, framing and geometry stations, jigs, fixtures, clamps, locators, conveyors, transfer systems, and material handling equipment.
- Troubleshoot and maintain industrial robots (ABB, Fanuc, KUKA), diagnose alarms, minimize downtime, and support robot program backup and recovery.
- Troubleshoot and maintain PLC and controls systems including HMIs, servo drives, VFDs, and industrial communication networks, and support automation upgrades and equipment modifications.
- Drive TPM and reliability improvement initiatives, improving OEE, MTBF, MTTR, and equipment availability using structured root cause analysis (5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto) and FMEA.
- Implement predictive maintenance and condition monitoring activities such as vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonic inspection, and lubrication management; analyze recurring failures and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure full compliance with safety and regulatory requirements including LOTO, electrical safety standards, machine guarding, and environmental regulations; participate in audits and risk assessments.
- Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and reporting in SAP or VMMS (breakdown, PM compliance, OEE), and manage critical spare parts inventory.
- Contribute proactively as a team member in BIW projects, collaborating with production, quality, and engineering stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering
Experience
- 8-10 years of experience in automotive or commercial vehicle manufacturing.
- Experience in robotic welding and BIW maintenance is preferred.
Technical skills required
