Position Description

Serve as Volvo Truck Korea’s lead legal and compliance officer, managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance across all business operations.

This position reports to the Managing Director of Volvo Truck Korea and has a dotted-line reporting to the Vice President, Legal for Volvo Trucks.

ROLES

Support Volvo Truck Korea’s business strategy and objectives—including compliance activities—by providing timely, cost-efficient, and proactive legal advice, counselling, and training. The purpose is to mitigate risk and protect Volvo Truck Korea’s interests in order to enable and support profitable operations.

 

MAIN TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the company’s lead legal and compliance officer, responsible for managing legal risks and ensuring compliance across all aspects of Volvo Trucks Korea’s operations.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to senior management and business functions on a broad range of matters, including commercial operations, product certification, labor and employment, compliance, and regulatory affairs.
  • Provide proactive legal support for product homologation and vehicle certification processes, including:
  • Reviewing relevant laws and regulations as they become increasingly complex or newly introduced.
  • Assessing and mitigating legal risks associated with non-compliance to avoid penalties, recalls, or reputational harm.
  • Identifying regulatory developments early and advise to ensure proactive compliance.
  • Deliver legal support related to government relations and labor union affairs, including:
  • Managing legal risks related to employee relations, union negotiations, and internal workplace matters.
  • Addressing issues involving occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations, and ensuring legal compliance in these sectors.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of contracts including commercial agreements, dealer agreements, procurement contracts, employment agreements, and vendor engagements.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the automotive and commercial vehicle industry, with a focus on product safety, certification, anti-corruption, antitrust, data privacy, labor, and environmental standards.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive compliance program, ensuring alignment with Volvo Group’s global policies and directives.
  • Conduct internal legal and compliance training to enhance awareness and promote a culture of integrity, ethical business conduct, and risk mitigation.
  • Manage external counsel engagements and act as liaison with government authorities, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Support corporate governance processes, including board and shareholder matters and entity compliance.

SKILLS

  • Business-minded with a solid legal background and minimum 8–10 years of post-qualification legal experience.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage a wide range of legal issues.
  • Very good communication and organizational skills.
  • Team player with integrity, accountability, analytical ability, creativity, and strong commitment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Education / Professional Qualifications
• Law degree from a recognized institution, and qualification to practice law in Korea or in a foreign jurisdiction.


Experience
• At least 8–10 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with both law firm and in-house experience.
• Experience or interest in compliance matters and product regulatory requirements is an advantage.


Additional Requirements
• Full professional fluency in both Korean and English (verbal and written).
• Must be eligible to work in Korea.
• Travel may be required, especially within Korea, to support local business needs for Volvo Truck Korea. 
• Experience in the commercial vehicle, automotive, or transportation industry is a merit
