What you will do
At Volvo Construction Equipment Technology(China), Co., Ltd, you will contribute to the transformation of our company, the transport industry and society at large. You will work as an Electrical & Electronics System Design Engineer and will:
Position Summary
- Responsible for the development of electrical & electronic systems with focus on wiring harness (design, routing, installation and validation) and securing QDCF in all product development phases.
- Develop wiring harness and key E&E components (sensors, actuators, control units, relays, fuse boxes, connectors, power distribution units) to meet product and customer requirements.
- Work with Purchasing & Supplier Management on new suppliers and components to ensure performance targets and efficient installation in our products.
- Provide wiring harness and E&E component expertise to purchasing and other internal stakeholders in sourcing and industrialization projects.
Main Tasks / Responsibilities / Authorities
- Lead wiring harness system development to meet customer, reliability, durability, manufacturability and cost targets.
- Define harness architecture, electrical distribution concept and interface strategy in the overall electrical system.
- Perform harness layout and installation design (2D/3D), including routing, clipping, protection, length optimization and assembly feasibility.
- Drive E&E component development: concept selection, specification, design review and validation for sensors, actuators, control units, switches, relays and distribution modules.
- Develop and maintain technical specifications for harness and E&E components, including functional, environmental and reliability requirements.
- Define system and component requirements (ratings, interfaces, communication, EMC, derating, IP class, etc.) and translate them into supplier specifications.
- Create and release harness drawings, 2D schematics and 3D models for components and installation on the machine.
- Support localization and cost‑down by qualifying alternative E&E components and suppliers while keeping system compatibility.
- Cooperate with purchasing on new harness and E&E component development, supplier selection, technical assessment and design‑to‑cost.
- Collaborate with suppliers on design reviews, DFM/DFQ and problem solving for harness, E&E components and installation.
- Provide technical support to testing, production, aftersales and quality for product improvement and new product development.
- Lead product quality and reliability improvement activities for harness, E&E components and electrical system.
- Support testing and validation of harness and E&E design solutions (planning, specification, report review and design updates).
- Ensure harness and E&E components comply with internal standards, customer requirements and relevant regulations (electrical safety, EMC/ESD, environmental and durability).

The JTC E&E team is responsible for both electrical and electronics system development for different kinds of construction equipment (e.g. WLO, EXC, etc.). The team covers different functional areas including harness design, component development, system development, software development, and software verification & validation (V&V).

Key Skills
- Solid product knowledge of electrical & electronic systems, with focus on wiring harness systems, power distribution and major E&E components.
- Strong designer competence in E&E system technology, including harness architecture, routing and component integration for heavy vehicles or machinery.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as CATIA or Creo for wiring harness and component packaging, as well as 2D schematics and installation drawings.
- Experience with quality tools and methods (e.g. FMEA, 8D, root cause analysis) in product and component development.
- Good understanding of product development processes from concept to industrialization, and ability to work in cross‑functional, international teams.
- Good skills in PC tools such as MS Office and Visio for documentation, reporting and basic system descriptions.
- Awareness of environmental, safety and legal requirements for electrical systems and harness in heavy vehicles (e.g. electrical safety, EMC/ESD, durability).
Education / Professional Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering, or Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience in E&E system and/or wiring harness development.
- Broad interest in technology, especially in heavy vehicles or off-road machinery.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability for electrical system and component issues.

- Good communication and teamwork skills, able to cooperate with purchasing, testing, production, quality and suppliers.
- Self‑driven, structured and result‑oriented, with sense of ownership for assigned tasks.
