What you will do
At Volvo Construction Equipment Technology(China), Co., Ltd, you will contribute to the transformation of our company, the transport industry and society at large. You will work as an Electrical & Electronics System Design Engineer and will:
Position Summary
- Responsible for the development and validation of electrical and electronic components, with a focus on wiring harnesses and key E&E parts (sensors, actuators, ECUs, switches, relays, fuse boxes, connectors, power distribution units).
- Ensures QDCF (Quality, Delivery, Cost, Function) targets are achieved throughout all product development phases.
- Works closely with Purchasing and Supplier Management to develop new components and onboard new suppliers, ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturability, and efficient installation in the final product.
- Provides technical expertise to internal stakeholders during sourcing, industrialization, production, quality, and aftersales activities.
Main Tasks / Responsibilities / Authorities
- Lead component-level development for wiring harnesses and E&E parts to meet customer requirements, reliability/durability targets, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
- Define component architecture and interface strategies (power distribution, signal/communication interfaces, connector strategy) to ensure system compatibility.
- Own component requirements and specifications, including functional performance, environmental robustness, reliability targets, ratings/derating, IP class, EMC/ESD requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Drive component selection and development activities: concept evaluation, supplier technical alignment, design reviews, sample phases, validation, and design freeze.
- Create, review, and release component engineering deliverables such as drawings, schematics/interconnect definitions, 3D models/envelopes, BOM structures, and engineering change documentation.
- Translate system and machine-level needs into clear supplier specifications; clarify technical requirements and manage requirement traceability.
- Collaborate with suppliers on DFM/DFQ, feasibility, tolerance/fit topics, and issue resolution for harnesses and E&E components.
- Support localization and cost-down initiatives by qualifying alternative components and suppliers while maintaining performance and compatibility; lead technical risk assessments and validation plans.
- Partner with Purchasing on supplier nomination, technical assessments, design-to-cost workshops, and negotiation support (technical benchmarking and cost drivers).
- Lead and support component testing and validation: define test plans and acceptance criteria, review reports, drive design updates, and ensure closure of open issues.
- Provide technical support to production, quality, and aftersales: failure analysis support, containment and corrective actions, supplier quality issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure components comply with internal standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulations (electrical safety, EMC, environmental and durability).
Your future team
The JTC E&E team is responsible for both electrical and electronics system development for different kinds of construction equipment (e.g. WLO, EXC, etc.). The team covers different functional areas including harness design, component development, system development, software development, and software verification & validation (V&V).
Who are you?
Do you dream big? We do too, and we are excited to grow together. In this role, you will bring:
Key Skills (Aligned with Component Development Focus)
- Strong component-level knowledge of electrical & electronic systems, with emphasis on wiring harnesses, power distribution, connectors, protection devices (fuses/relays), sensors, actuators, ECUs, and distribution modules.
- Proven capability in component development and industrialization, including requirements definition, specification writing, supplier technical alignment, design reviews, validation planning, and change control.
- Solid expertise in harness/component interfaces and integration, including electrical ratings/derating, interface management, IP protection, EMC/ESD considerations, and installation/manufacturing feasibility for heavy vehicles or off-road machinery.
