What you will do

Lead the development of products, systems, and components across the complete product lifecycle, securing fulfillment of requirements related to quality, durability, cost, and feature performance (QDCF). Drive product and system development in close collaboration with suppliers, purchasing, manufacturing, customers, and the global Volvo Penta engineering network.

As a Senior Product Engineer, you will play a key role in developing solutions for the Chinese and international markets. Depending on your background and expertise, you may work within areas such as driveline systems, electronics, software, electrification, mechanical systems, or product integration.

You will be part of the Volvo Penta China Engineering team based in Ji'nan. We are a small team of highly skilled engineers working across multiple technical domains, developing products and solutions for both the Chinese and global markets.

You will work closely with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, and Volvo Penta's global R&D organization, contributing to the development of future products and technologies.

Main Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead development activities for products, systems, and components to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Develop technical requirements and specifications for new products and solutions.
  • Drive system integration, installation design, and product optimization activities.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and purchasing in sourcing and development of new components and technologies.
  • Support design reviews, technical investigations, and root cause analysis activities.
  • Manage product quality, reliability, and cost improvement projects.
  • Support verification and validation activities to evaluate and secure robust technical solutions.
  • Work closely with global engineering teams to share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to product roadmaps and future technology development.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Who are you?

Required knowledge & experience:

Education / Professional Qualifications

  • M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Several years of experience in product development within the automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, marine, or industrial sectors.
  • Experience working with complex technical systems and cross-functional engineering projects.
  • Ability to understand system requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Driveline systems
    • Transmission and axle systems
    • Electronics and electrical systems
    • Embedded software or control systems
    • Vehicle integration
    • Electrification technologies
    • Mechanical design and product development
  • Knowledge of engineering tools such as CATIA, Creo, or similar CAD systems is considered beneficial.
  • Experience with verification, validation, and problem-solving methodologies.

  • Knowledge of systems engineering, requirements management, and product lifecycle management.
  • Experience from electrification, connectivity, or software-based product development.
  • Experience working in an international engineering environment.
