Purpose of the Role
The Head of Compliance is responsible for ensuring Volvo Group Southern Africa complies with all legal, regulatory, internal policy, and Code of Conduct requirements. The role supports management and employees, oversees reporting and notification obligations, and helps identify and manage compliance risks.It also leads the implementation of compliance policies, maintains effective compliance controls, and promotes a strong speak-up culture where employees can raise concerns safely. In addition, the role provides leadership across the organization, coordinates compliance matters between companies, and works closely with senior leadership and global Volvo teams.The position is based at Volvo Group Southern Africa headquarters and reports to the Managing Director.
Job Objectives:
Strategic Focus:
- Identify and manage Compliance risk in close cooperation with the management and staff, ensuring a risk based approach.
- Complement the scope of Compliance to include other legal, regulatory and/or ethical areas where this is apparoriate, for example, in order to manage risk in areas not covered by the Code of Conduct.
- Ensure continual monitoring and review of Compliance procedures to help identify possible areas where improvements could be made.
- Ensuring the business meets its Compliance obligations and follow up on corrective plans, verifying that all regulatory policies and procedures have been documented, implemented and communicated.
- Advising on issues and questions arising from the areas in scope of the role.
- Monitoring Compliance requirements, including updating the company on regulatory and legal changes on FICA and POPIA.
- In the event of a regulatory breach, overseeing the reporting of violations, including maintaining relationships with external regulators, and instigating appropriate disciplinary and other measures, to avoid a future recurrence.
- Educating and providing training to all management and staff as appropriate and instituting practices that will ensure the highest possible level of compliance (e.g. FICA and POPIA).
- Maintain and keep records and follow up of staff Compliance training requirements and attendance.
- Develop Company Policies and Procedures, including internal controls, and ensuring the preparation and adequate record keeping of reports and correspondence.
- Ensure adequate communication of the Whistle and Management Incident Report processes and oversee and / or participate in investigations together with other Volvo Trucks and Volvo Group Functions and external advisers and authorities,
- Reporting to management teams at all levels using both qualitative and quantative data as well as a compelling narrative to report on the effectiveness of risk management in Compliance matters and needed improvements.
Other Job Responsibilities
Operational Focus:
- Conducting risk assessments in the following areas:
- Export Control (in close cooperation with Legal).
- Competition Law (in close cooperation with Legal).
- Data Privacy and handling of data (in close cooperation with the Volvo Group data protection community).
- Anti-Corruption.
- Anti-Money Laundering (in close cooperation with VFS and the finance community).
Continuously improving the Compliance Programme to address the identified risks, anchoring this with management and seeing to its execution, including by:
- Providing effective training and communications.
- Overseeing adequate due diligence, including due diligence of Third Party Internediaries.
- Being the champion of an open and transparent culture of compliance which recognises focus on compliance by all staff, and which fosters a safe environment for discussions on compliance and a “speak-up” culture.
- Reporting to the Volvo Trucks Compliance Committee (upon request).
- Subject to agreement of the Chief Compliance Officer, participating as a member of the Compliance Leadership Team organised by Group Compliance.
Advising on the following other areas in the Code of Conduct together with the Business, People and Culture and Sustainability functions as appropriate:
- Human rights.
- Responsible Sales (including Military Sales).
- Conflicts of interest.
- Protecting company assets.
- Human resources.
Whistleblower:
- Whistlecase investigation handler.
Internal Audit:
- Responsible for the overall follow-up of internal audit observations, providing support and montoring remediation of observations.

Qualification & Job Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a similar role in a large business environment.
- Professional certification such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP).
- Certificate in compliance management.
- Member of the Compliance Institute of SA.
- Committed and driven team-player with excellent problem-solving skills and strong ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders on different levels in the organization as much as outside of the organization.
- Having extensive in-depth knowledge and experience in risk management, corporate governance, and regulatory framework and trends.
- Thought Leader in Compliance.
- Engage in an cross-functionally work leveraging the knowledge and support available in all areas of Volvo Group Southern Africa and external partners to ensure high levels of dialogue, exchange of information and coordination between all stakeholders.
- Work in accordance with and demonstrate the Volvo Group processes, the Code of Conduct and the
Volvo Group Values. - Proficient in MS Office and in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

- Senior level experience of compliance governance.
You are responsible for your allocated workload and must meet all targets as agreed with your Line Manager. You must contribute towards the smooth running of the organisation generally.
