What you will do

Financial Control and Accounting (FCA) is the accounting department within the Volvo Group, responsible for financial compliance in terms of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as well as compliance to local legislation.

 

Purpose of the Job

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will be part of the FCA South EMEA team. You will be responsible for supporting the Chief Accountant with the preparation and reporting of month-end results in the group reporting system in accordance with local and IFRS reporting standards to ensure compliance with local financial and tax legislations. You will also take an active part in the development of all relevant reporting and accounting processes within FCA.

You will report directly to the Director FCA South Africa with a functional reporting line to the Chief Accountant. 

 

Job Objectives:

  • Relationship manager for the Volvo Trucks division consisting of New Trucks, Used Trucks and Market Africa.
  • Timely and accurate accounting for the assigned financial line items.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal Volvo Financial Policies and Procedures (FPP).
  • Adherence to Financial, Company and Group Internal Controls and associated frameworks. 
  • Support the business through the monthly closing process and accounting inquiries. 
  • Manage and train offshore Accounting Services teams.
  • Responsibility for preparing reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and key income statement accounts to ensure accuracy and validity of general ledger balances.
  • Responsibility for the preparation and reporting of month-end results in the group reporting system. Providing timely, accurate, complete and compliant financial, commercial and statistical data.
  • Analyse and provide financial reports as required to support Financial Planning, Forecasts and associated processes.
  • Approve and ensure accuracy of journals processed by the business.
  • Liaise with the business to stay abreast of business developments and resolve concerns.
  • Understand business operations and systems and proactively identify areas of efficiency and effectiveness improvement within FCA.
  • Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by your manager.

Qualification & Job Experience

  • A Qualified Chartered Accountant - CA(SA).
  • Minimum of three years working experience in financial accounting, reporting and consolidation, financial planning, business analysis and tax.
  • Good technical knowledge of IFRS.
  • Practical experience working in an international environment and in cross functional teams.
