Intern: Lean Business Developer (Fall 2025)

About this Role

We are currently looking for a student to work with our Chicago Distribution Center as a Lean Business Developer Intern. The student should be prepared to gain experience and knowledge in various aspects of logistics operations, and to make continuous improvement suggestions. 

As a valued member of the Chicago Distribution Center within Group Truck Operations (GTO), the student will have the opportunity to work directly to improve internal processes within the Distribution Center (DC) via structuring ways to collect, process and analyze data to support the operation.  

GTO’s goal is to contribute to the student’s development, as well as providing an opportunity for the student to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry.  This position will report to Chicago Distribution Center Manager.

What you will do

Position Responsibilities:
•    Develop ways to extract information from current systems to support operational decisions
•    Optimize and develop the MS ACCESS database, or suggest technology that may better serve the needs of the warehouse
•    Create and optimize MS EXCEL templates supporting the operational needs
•    Support with process data analysis
•    Communicate with different stakeholders to support the implementations
•    Work together with the operation to Implement Ideas
•    Work with Lean Manufacturing concepts such as 5S, Standardized Work, Visual Management, PDCA, among others
•    Support the Continuous Improvement Program within the Distribution Center


Critical Competencies:
•    Fully proficient in MS ACCESS and MS EXCEL including VBA

Who are you?

Minimum Education and Program Requirements
•    Applicants must be currently enrolled in academic courses and pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology at an accredited school and must have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the internship.
•    Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75/4.0
•    Interns can work up to 30 hours per week during the Fall internship period.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
•    This intern is located onsite in our Joliet warehouse, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.
•    A housing allowance will be provided for candidates who live more than 50 miles from Joliet, Illinois.

•    Performance Feedback: Throughout the entire experience, the manager will provide verbal and written feedback on work performance. At the end of the internship, each intern will be given a formal written evaluation based on their work performance.

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
