Position Summary:

The Team Leader plays a crucial role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations within the production process. This position provides frontline leadership by supervising production teams, coordinating daily activities, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to meet operational, quality, and safety targets.

 

As a key link between management and shop-floor employees, the Team Leader is responsible for translating business objectives into clear team goals, fostering a culture of accountability, and supporting professional development of team members. By modeling integrity, discipline, and problem-solving skills, the Team Leader ensures alignment with plant standards and customer expectations.

Core Responsibilities:

1.    People Leadership

o    Supervise and coordinate daily activities of production operators.
o    Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
o    Ensure training and development of team members (safety, quality, process).

 

2.    Safety & Compliance

o    Enforce health, safety, and environmental standards (OSHA, ISO 45001, local laws).
o    Conduct safety talks, incident reporting, and risk assessments.
o    Stop unsafe acts and foster a strong safety culture.

 

3.    Production & Quality Control

o    Assign tasks and balance workloads according to production plans.
o    Monitor output to meet quality, delivery, and efficiency targets.
o    Support problem-solving (5Why, Fishbone, QRPS, A3, 8D) for process and quality issues.

 

4.    Continuous Improvement

o    Promote Lean/Kaizen activities (5S, waste reduction, standard work).
o    Suggest and implement process improvements to boost OEE and productivity.
o    Track KPIs (efficiency, scrap, downtime, absenteeism) and report to management

 

5.    Communication & Coordination

o    Hold regular team meetings / shift handovers, presenting SQDCEP for the area
o    Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, quality, and logistics teams.

 

Performs other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned by management to support Volvo Penta goals and objectives.

 

Position will require domestic and international travel.

Core Requirements

1.    Education & Experience

o    High school diploma or technical education
o    2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
o    Prior leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

 

2.    Skills & Competencies

o    Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
o    Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and problem-solving tools.
o    Basic technical/mechanical understanding of production processes.
o    Good organizational and planning abilities.
o    Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
o    Ability to handle conflict and motivate diverse teams.
o    Ability to train other employees, coordinate workflow and assist manager in directing duties of other team members.
o    Strong computer skills (Excel, ERP/QMS systems).

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $29.03 - $35.86/ hour, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
