What you will do
As an apprentice you will learn how to repair, and sometimes replace, damaged bodywork using specialist techniques with traditional tools and the latest equipment.
- Assessing a vehicle to establish the extent of damage.
- Based on the initial assessment, deciding whether to repair or replace bodywork.
- Removal and replacement of body panels and associated components.
- Refitting new/repaired panels.
- Repairing damaged bodywork using traditional dolly and hammer or more modern techniques incl MiG brazing.
- Repairing small dents, holes, or corroded areas using a compound filler.
- Use Volvo special tools safely and efficiently.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
- Assist with cleaning the workshop.
- Comply with warranty procedures during repairs and with warranty material on completion of repair.
- Ensure that the company’s time recording procedures are complied with.
- Ensure job cards are completed accurately.
- Ensure all vehicle defects are reported to workshop Supervisor.
- Attend college courses regularly and achieve the standards required by the course.
- Attend any technical or development training that is made available

Desired qualifications: GCSE A* to C/Grade 4 in Math and English

Duration: 3 years which includes 3 months End Point Assessment preparation
In this programme, all aspects of heavy vehicle technology are embedded in this dedicated programme and involves a mix of academic learning and on-the-job training.
- Practical learning in the workplace, shadowing your mentor and carrying out the work while being supervised.
- Online studies, completing workbooks and job cards, attending online sessions and virtual classes with your Development Coach, all done during your working day.
- Attending block release to the Remit Training Academy in Derby, DE24 8NB every 2 months. All costs of your hotel food and accommodation plus all travel arrangements are covered by the Volvo Trucks.
Ready for the next move?
Training: Training is delivered in the workplace with your mentor and visits with your Remit Development Coach and also through block release at Remits dedicated Automotive Academy in Derby. There are a total of 12 blocks over the 3 year programme. The costs for your hotel, food and travel are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you
Progression: An apprenticeship is full time employment, and many employers offer further training and progression routes. After achieving your level 3, you can go on to specialise in vinyl wraps and aesthetic paint work, or on to management roles such as Workshop Controller or Shift Supervisor
In addition, Volvo holds an event where you and your family will be invited to a special graduation day to receive your certificates and possibly a special merit award at the end of your apprenticeship

On successfully completing the Volvo Apprentice Programme, you will gain national qualifications recognised throughout the automotive industry:
- Vehicle Damage Panel level 3
In addition, Volvo holds an event where you and your family will be invited to a special graduation day to receive your certificates and possibly a special merit award at the end of your apprenticeship
