What you will do

We are looking for an experienced (at least 8 years) contracts lawyer (ideally purchasing contracts lawyer) for a temporary position (10 months - Sept 24 to June 25) to support Volvo Group Trucks Purchasing.

In addition, this role requires substantial experience with electromobility (EMOB) and a deep understanding of the challenges associated with this rapidly evolving sector (namely electromobility technology, industry trends, regulatory environment, market dynamics, key players, batteries and energy storage systems) .

 

This role will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Legal & Compliance strategic development in GTP Legal and Compliance departments and will work closely with senior lawyers (Lead Counsels) dedicated to strategic lines of business including a specific focus on electromobility matters for at least 50% of the allocated time.  

 

The work tasks offer cross-functional collaboration with other Volvo legal and compliance counsels and business stakeholders across the globe and may require occasional travel. 


 

Main activities and responsibilities


•    Participate in Electromobility sourcing projects; 

•    Provide proactive and business-oriented legal advice to the daily business operations in Europe; 

•    Draft and negotiate many different types of contracts as purchase agreements, licenses, lease, collaboration agreements… and if so needed, negotiate (together with the business teams) with external stakeholders; 

•    Provide legal support with respect to disputes and threats involving suppliers or other external entities that impact GTP. Provide support with respect to subjects that relate to the day-to-day GTP business areas, sometimes taking a lead role and other times acting more as a liaison between our business stakeholders and other subject matter experts, both inside and outside of the legal function. Subjects might include, by way of example only, intellectual property matters, supplier distress, insolvency and reorganization matters, customs, export control. 

•    Provide support on intellectual property matters (dependent on experience); 

•    Promote compliance with laws and regulations and internal legal processes; 

•    Proactively manage and enhance awareness of legal and commercial risks; 

•    Work hand in hand with the Lead Counsels in charge of commodities and in particular with the Lead L&C Counsel – E-mobility; 

•    Actively collaborate cross-functionally and cooperate with colleagues around the world on legal matters and projects within GTP and with internal and external stakeholders
 

Who are you?

Critical Competencies: 

 

  • Over 8 years of experience as a contracts lawyer (ie contract drafting, negotiations and contract management) focusing on purchasing and/or electromobility, ideally in the automotive sector. 
  • Proficiency in negotiation and drafting of contracts together with experience in contracts and commercial law in the Electromobility space 
  • Significant experience in electromobility (EMOB), understanding the challenges related to batteries and energy storage systems.
  • Bachelor of Law 
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and a commercial acumen 
  • A true business interest and understanding of the Electromobility market, the electrification journey of the automotive section, with high drive and energy 
  • A good understanding of the compliance challenges arising in the automotive purchasing arena 
  • Ability to work efficiently and be comfortable in a high tech, fast-pace, complex and volatile that Purchasing and Emob are 
  • A drive to learn, develop and contribute to the success of the Volvo Group and the legal team 
  • Curious, accountable and proactive with a “can do” mindset 
  • Ability to work independently and in teams 
  • Ability to work cross jurisdictions with cultural awareness resulting from a prior experience working with a global group 
  • Strong personal credibility and integrity
