The Maintenance team is part of the Manufacturing Engineering & Maintenance Department at the Mack Trucks Lehigh Valley Operations (LVO) facility. This department is responsible for the full scope of maintenance for all production related tooling and equipment and supports assembly process development, tooling development and maintenance, Industrial and product change project management, and investigation and execution of industrial strategy for the factory. As a maintenance Supervisor/engineer, you will have continuous opportunities to work cross-functionally both within the maintenance & engineering department and with other functions such as logistics engineering, safety, and environment, production, and Quality. These interactions are not only critical to the success of the maintenance team but are also a great opportunity to grow and develop as a maintenance Supervisor/engineer and contributor to business goals.

About the Position.

Maintenance is a team of engineers/Supervisors and technicians responsible for supporting current and future assembly operations by managing all the required tools and spare parts,  implementing preventative maintenance schedules, and keeping the maintenance technicians trained  to facilitate safe and efficient assembly of the Mack Truck product. This team works closely with the production engineering team of process specialists, safety and ergonomic experts, production technicians, production leaders, tooling and equipment engineers, and indirect purchasing team to bring world-class maintenance and create the safest work environment for our workforce. The group works to ensure all production equipment is properly maintained to support uninterrupted production, implement improvements to existing equipment to improve uptime and reliability, participate on project teams developing new equipment to ensure reliability and maintainability, and ensure the maintenance technicians are fully trained to efficiently maintain and repair all production equipment. The maintenance Supervisor/engineer’s role is very dynamic and requires extremely efficient communication with the maintenance technicians, stakeholders and project management skills to plan activities and track progress.

This position is located at the Mack Trucks Cab and Vehicle Assembly plant in Macungie, PA. Due to the necessity for face-to-face interaction with maintenance technicians and stakeholders both on the plant floor and in an office setting, and the need to be able to observe assembly processes in person, the qualified candidate will not be able to work remotely.

 

The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 2:15 PM to 10:45 PM, with overtime eligibility.


Main activities and responsibilities for this role

  • Coach, mentor and support the maintenance technicians ensuring they have the necessary tools, equipment and training to properly maintain, repair and improve production equipment
  • Support the development of tooling and equipment solutions in collaboration with the tooling engineering group and cross-functional stakeholders to support safe and efficient assembly of trucks
  • Participate in product and industrial projects.
  • Collaborate with the tooling team in development of technical solutions to problems with existing equipment and work the development of tooling and equipment standards to ensure new equipment design incorporates best practices from previous learnings.
  • Actively participate in all pillars of Mack Production System. Utilize a structured approach and tools within MPS to identify and implement professional maintenance practices

  • In depth mechanical knowledge of and experience with pneumatic, hydraulic and power transmission systems.
  • Solid electrical knowledge of high voltage and its distribution through the plant, from 16,900 volts to 110 volts and DC voltages. 
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and arrive at efficient and effective solutions to electrical, mechanical or machining problems.
  • Proven experience in taking initiative, driving improvements, taking additional responsibilities, thinking outside the box, and going the extra mile.
  • Substantial knowledge of engineering concepts, manufacturing, the product, production standards, and efficiency optimization tools.
  • Proven ability to react to issues impacting production with a sense of urgency, promptly assessing the issue, developing a feasible action plan, and following it through to successful completion.
  • Experience in a diverse team-based environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 10 - 15 years experience based on demonstrated performance in a related Maintenance/Facilities/Engineering manager or supervisor role.
  • Data analytics education/experience

 

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $96,000 - $118,500 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
