The Health & Safety Manager will be passionate about building an engaged Safety Culture and will own, drive, develop, implement, and manage H&S (health and safety) programs and initiatives consistent with the company’s business plans and in compliance with federal, state, local, and Volvo requirements. They will provide safety leadership to the organization in health, safety, company issues, practices, and procedures.  MACK Trucks Inc is a 3-shift operation, as such there is a responsibility to support safety activities and provide coverage of safety programs for all MACK employees on all shifts. This position will report directly to the LVO Director of People and Culture.
 

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop hands-on programs to reduce risk for work related illnesses and injuries and improve operations productivity on all shifts
  • Provide necessary visible H&S training to management and the line organization on all shifts 
  • Utilize Lean methodology and develop necessary action plans to address corrective actions in health and safety affairs
  • Define targets and KPIs, report monthly
  • Drive facility performance, trends, and preventative activities while actively partnering with line management to build a Safety culture. 
  • Utilize reporting tool (Cority) to develop dashboards, and ensure effective usage at locations to report compliance documents and safety findings and close the safety feedback loop with line management 
  • Own and communicate H&S related tools to improve performance and increase efficiency in meeting objectives and ensuring compliance with legal and other requirements
  • Partner with line management to drive current and future applicable regulatory requirements, perform regulatory impact evaluations and implementation planning, while at the same time, ensuring operational
  • management is engaged in potential impacts, and performance of assigned operations or area of responsibility against regulatory requirements and specific H&S objectives of the company
  • Own and maintain strategic plans jointly with business partners, and manage activities to minimize liability and/or exposure to the company for health and safety issues
  • Develop a strategy for multiple shift coverage by the Health and Safety Team
  • Administer H&S related language in contractual agreements with labor union.
  • Maintain effective relationships with union safety representation and other union representatives
  • Establish facility goals, drive program effectiveness, provide data and/or progress reports to management, and develop and partner on corrective actions for the facilities.
  • Maintain and communicate H&S performance information to company management as directed or requested
  • Establish global and local networks to secure consistency and standards throughout the organization
  • Coordinate and communicate H&S activities with the Global and US H&S Center of Expertise, including representing LVO on the US H&S Network Group
  • Partner on Health &Safety internal audit actions, monitor closure of findings identified
  • Participate in TTI and LVO Working Groups related to H&S matters
  • Responsibility for both NBU and BU direct reports.
     

Who are you?


Required Qualifications

  • Degree in occupational health and safety, or other related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in industrial, manufacturing, and safety management/leadership experiencw
  • Preferred Qualifications
     
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other HS&E Certifications (CIH, CHMM, etc.) or willing to secure 
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Experience in driving culture change 
  • Working knowledge of ergonomics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience supporting a 3-shift manufacturing operation
  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and Company reporting requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of recognized management system standards (ISO, OHSAS, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of heavy industrial manufacturing and distribution operations
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to influence a change culture

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $130,000 - $160,000 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
