Overview

We are seeking an experienced Vice President & General Manager to lead the launch and long-term success of a new Volvo/Mack truck manufacturing facility in Mexico.

 

This is a critical leadership role responsible overseeing the full plant lifecycle—from start-up through steady-state operations—while building a high-performing, values-driven organization. The successful candidate will lead with a strong focus on people, operational excellence, and continuous improvement, using the Volvo Production System (VPS) as a foundation for success.

 

This role is part of the Conventional Trucks Technology & Industrial team and plays a key role in shaping the North American manufacturing footprint.

 

This position reports to the Senior Vice President of North America Manufacturing, Group Trucks Operations, and is a member of the North America Manufacturing Leadership Team.

 

Location & Travel

  • Extensive travel between the U.S. and Mexico during the start-up phase
  • Long-term location: Monterrey, Mexico


Key Responsibilities

 

Start-Up & Facility Launch

  • Lead all aspects of plant start-up, ensuring readiness across people, processes, and systems
  • Oversee project planning, timelines, and execution to meet key milestones
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Drive recruitment, onboarding, and training of the plant organization
  • Oversee facility layout, equipment installation, and operational readiness
  • Coordinate with global and regional stakeholders to ensure successful launchOperations Leadership
  • Lead, inspire, and develop the plant leadership team and broader organization
  • Establish a clear mid- and long-term vision aligned with business strategy
  • Drive operational performance to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets
  • Oversee full manufacturing scope, including cab body-in-white and paint operations
  • Manage plant financial performance, including budgeting, cost control, and break-even targets

 

Operational Excellence & Transformation

  • Lead implementation and continuous development of the Volvo Production System (VPS)
  • Build organizational capabilities to support long-term efficiency and growth
  • Drive continuous improvement and World Class Manufacturing practices
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and ownership
  • Ensure alignment and execution of local, regional, and global initiatives

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of senior leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale operations and driving organizational transformation
  • Experience in automotive, commercial vehicles, or heavy manufacturing preferred
  • Strong understanding of global manufacturing operations and industrial systems
  • Experience working closely with commercial/market organizations
