The Company:

 

The Volvo Construction Equipment Haulers Ltd. site located in Motherwell, Scotland, designs and manufactures Rigid & Articulated Trucks for distribution around the globe. The company is part of Volvo Construction Equipment and the site has manufactured trucks for over 70 years.

Job Purpose:

 

Reporting to the Production Manager, the main purpose of this role is to perform fault finding, diagnostic and repair service on all machines using fault finding software. Can also perform a variety of line assembly operations related to truck assembly using air/power tools and hand tools and ensures that all phases of manufacturing activities are performed in a safe manner and in compliance with both internal policies and procedures and regulatory guidelines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Position, assemble and secure parts according to standard procedures specified tolerances, and assembly graphics.
  • Operate equipment such as: Overhead crane, grinder, impact / impulse tools, hydraulic press and hand tools to aid in assembly
  • Inspect all parts for cleanliness and flaws. If flaws exist, completes Nonconforming Material Report.
  • Perform fault finding service using diagnostic software; i.e. IFM hydraulic programmes which monitor hydraulics faults; also assess electrics, cooling systems, engine, brakes, speeds and pressures etc.
  • Carry out repairs on any given faults
  • Assist inspection team members to fix any diagnostics faults that show up during testing.
  • Keep Team Leader advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Utilize and embrace lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; e.g. driving truck onto transporter truck; block off machines before testing
  • Attend internal and external training as required

Experience and Qualifications

 

  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Time served or completion of Modern Apprenticeship
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to read standard operating procedures, technical drawings and instructions, and work orders
  • Ability to read diagnostic plans for our product range
  • Able to gather and analyze relevant information and coordinate work with other team members.
  • Contributes information and ideas to development of project plans.
  • Influences how own work assignments are completed. Some creativity in accomplishing assignments and use of discretion and independent judgment required.
  • Work requires analysis using established procedures to solve routine problems.
    Excellent communication skills.
  • Essential experience of working on our products if an internal appointment
