Counterbalance Forklift Operator - Backshift

Starting Salary: £30,000 and a Company bonus of up to £1500

Location: Rugby (relocating to Coventry in June 2027)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday  1:30 pm - 22:00 pm

 

Please note: Trucks, Technology and Industrial will be relocating from Rugby to Coventry. Ideally, candidates should be happy to commute to both sites during the transition period.

 

In this role, you will safely and efficiently load and unload vehicles using a Counterbalance Forklift Truck from both rear and side-loading access points. You will carry out scanning of goods, complete safety checks, maintain stock accuracy and protect product quality. It will be your responsibility to support a safe, on-time dispatch.

 

You’ll support multiple Volvo Group brands, including Volvo Penta, Renault Trucks, Volvo Trucks and Bus, handling a wide range of parts, from windscreens, truck beds, and engines to smaller components, ensuring the right products reach the right place efficiently and safely.

Who are you?

  • Proven experience in loading and unloading operations within a warehouse, distribution, logistics, or transport environment.
  • Strong experience loading and unloading trailers from both rear and side access using a Counterbalance Forklift Truck.
  • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence or certification, such as RTITB, ITSSAR, AITT, NPORS or equivalent.
  • Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and handheld scanners, accurately recording and retrieving data.
  • Fluent in English with a valid UK driving licence.
  • Good understanding of dock safety, trailer safety, load security, and vehicle loading principles.
  • You may understanding of the transport documentation, dispatch process and the trailer turnaround expectations

 

You’ll work alongside other warehouse operatives, two Warehouse Team Leaders, and the Logistics Operations Manager. Together, you’ll create a working environment that values safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

 

At our warehouse, you will:

You’ll support warehouse operations by safely loading and unloading vehicles efficiently in line with the site procedures. You will be responsible for conducting safety checks on the dock, loading bays, trailers, dock levellers, restraints and the surrounding areas.

 

  • Conduct loading and unloading activities from both rear and side-loading trailers.
  • Accurately scan and record all stock movements using handheld scanning equipment and the Warehouse Management System (WMS), escalating any discrepancies promptly to the Shift Leader.
  • Ensure that your working area is clean, organised and safe to work in.
  • Conduct and confirm all required loading bay safety checks, complete daily Counterbalance Forklift Truck pre-use inspections 
  • Identify and report damaged stock, packaging defects, trailer issues, or transport discrepancies immediately.
  • Load vehicles in accordance with load plans, transport requirements, weight distribution principles and load security standards.
