Our diverse team of about fifteen engineers, PhD students and apprentices contribute to the development of engines and power transmissions for the Volvo Group. We conduct advanced mechanical, acoustic, and fluid simulations on all our products at every stage of their development.

We are looking for an experienced engineer to work on mechanical simulations of our electric propulsion systems.


What does a mechanical simulation engineer do at Volvo Powertrain?

As a mechanical simulation engineer, you plan and perform mechanical analyses of electric transmission parts using FEM simulations. You analyze the results, recommend improvements, and communicate your findings to internal clients. You ensure correlation with tests and work continuously with designers.

 

Your work involves feasibility studies of projects, concept evaluations, detailed developments, and quality problem resolutions.

 

You collaborate with colleagues located in Europe, Asia and America. You lead technically a small group of simulation engineers located in France and India. As a simulation ambassador, you develop simulation methods and promote their use.

 

Curious, you link simulation with data analysis and new digital tools to better understand customers and develop predictive maintenance

Who are you? (Required knowledge/experience)

To succeed, we believe you rely on an excellent mechanical sense and have a strong command of static and fatigue modeling. Experience with these fundamentals applied to transmissions is undeniably an asset.

 

You are capable of technical leadership in your field to quickly solve complex product development issues and demonstrate ability to lead a small group of simulation engineers located in several countries.

 

Collaboration and communication come naturally to you, and you will easily work in our international environment. You have the ability to advance the state of the art in our field with academic and industrial partners.

 

Your Skills

  •  Master's/Engineering degree in physics, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar position
  • Solid experience as simulation engineer and proficiency in FEA tools such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, or ideally ABAQUS, as well as fatigue tools
  • Fluent in French and English (written and spoken)
  • Experience in transmission development is appreciated, as well as technical leadership experience
