Business Controller

The Business Controller holds a very important role in the Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) facility. This position supports finance and production management to understand the financial impact of decisions & activities through the value chain and the production unit being supported. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Month End Closing process.
  • Responsible for analysis, reporting and communication of the financial results, including variance analysis and root cause for main deviations.
  • Power BI- Work closely with site to develop and present data analysis, budget and forecast dashboards, and to improve understanding of the financial business drivers.
  • EBD super user.
  • Support and completion of financial forecasting and budgeting activity which includes manufacturing spending, productivity, capital, and inventory.
  • Provide financial support for investment request initiation, monitoring and follow-up.
  • Serve as the financial partner in determining financial targets.
  • Leading and participating in projects / teams that are geared towards reducing waste and losses through process efficiency activities.
  • Increase automation of all accounting and finance processes.
  • Balance Sheet account reconciliations.
  • Ensure internal controls are maintained and compliance to FPP and other accounting directives.
  • Provide “Early Warnings” and “No Surprises” – monitor performance and trend analysis of operating results and business plans
  • Understand/Support Total Business – “Be in the Business”
  • Develop cross-functional business relationships and network with GTT, GTP, PL, and other global organizations

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance field required; master’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience
  • 5+ years in finance & control
  • CMA or CPA preferred
  • Experience in related areas such as accounting in a manufacturing company preferred
  • Some successful work experience in the field of Accounting, Internal Controls, Cost Accounting, and/or Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Experience in working with Financial Applications of ERP system is an asset
  • High level of personal and professional integrity
  • Quick, crisp and analytical mind and acute, highly developed judgment skills
  • Experience from digital tools and a genuine interest in driving the digitalization and automation
  • Ability to formulate, communicate and present ideas with self-confidence
  • Highly responsive, client service orientation and demonstrated hands-on approach
  • Proven ability to build up relevant and useful contacts internally and externally
  • Sense of urgency and ability to push work forward to timely completion
  • Self motivated with a proactive and innovative approach
  • Strong business focus with demonstrated business acumen
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate in a multi-cultural environment
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Dynamics, fast-paced, matrix environnement
  • Some travel required
  • Knowledge of construction equipment products
  • Exceptional PC skill with knowledge of the Microsoft suite; working knowledge of BCS, SAP, and Essbase is an asset
  • Good experience in change management and demonstrated ability to challenge an organization, whilst further developing an excellent working climate and atmosphere in alignment with the Volvo Way and the Code of Conduct
