What you will do

The Opportunity

As the Head of Commodity China, you will be a pivotal leader within our China Purchasing Leadership Team. You will own the end-to-end commodity strategy for the region, ensuring a competitive, resilient, and high-performing supply base. This role is critical to securing our operational excellence and market leadership in China and also contributing to our global business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the short, mid, and long-term commodity strategy for China, aligned with Volvo CE's global and regional business objectives.
  • Team & Performance Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the China commodity team. Own and drive the QSCC (Quality, Sustainability, Capacity, Cost) performance and KPIs for regional commodity portfolio.
  • Supplier & Supply Chain Excellence: Structure and manage the regional supplier base, leading strategic supplier selection, relationship management, negotiations, and framework agreements. Develop a sustainable and competitive supply base.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the key liaison for the China commodity team, partnering closely with global commodity directors, Technology, Operations, and other functions to drive continuous improvement and innovation across the supply chain.
  • Business Execution: Lead monthly commodity reviews, support cross-functional value teams, and ensure robust processes are in place to secure supply and support operational escalations.

You are a strategic, results-oriented leader with a proven track record in international sourcing and supply chain management. You possess a unique blend of strategic vision and operational excellence. You have a holistic view with a high understanding of the business, and a mindset for improving the profitability of our products.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive sourcing experience within an international manufacturing or industrial environment, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in sourcing strategy, supplier relationship management, and complex global negotiations.
  • Strong technical acumen to effectively collaborate with Technology and Operations teams. Strong networking skills with the ability to deal with a high degree of complexity and ambiguity.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with excellent communication and presentation skills in English, and a fluent Chinese is a plus.
