In this position you will...
Execute Volvo CE Purchasing Supplier Development programs, in terms of commodity activities and projects, to reach a world class supplier base.
The Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) is responsible for supplier assessment and continuous improvements related to the supplier’s capabilities and competencies. Additionally, the SDE will be the technical facilitator between our Technology department and the supplier’s technical experts, to ensure proper application with quality focus.
Main Tasks/ Responsibilities / Authorities:
• Lead and monitor Supplier Development activities for the suppliers within their responsible commodity(s).
• Perform various supplier related assessments / audits as appropriate (SSEM, SEM, SAQ, process audit, capacity audit, etc.)
• Perform APQP / PPAP for all newly released parts and/or resourced parts. Work closely with Technology on ESI / DFM concepts and facilitate proper use of PAA.
• Ownership of RTS process to ensure alignment between Volvo Technology and the supplier. Create chain case and deviations as appropriate to update Volvo drawings if needed.
• Continuously improve and develop suppliers to become more efficient, eliminate non-conformance and reduce costs through lean manufacturing or other techniques.
• Facilitate approval of PPCN or other changes initiated by suppliers to ensure no quality or other issues arise that would negatively impact Volvo.

• Support all supplier quality related initiatives to improve PPAP FTT, SFTT and SEFF results. Utilize SPM and SDP for proper visibility and escalation.
• Promote all Sustainability initiatives with supply base and ensure Volvo CE requirements and targets are being met.
• Actively participate in all commodity team meetings to develop/support the strategy, reach KPIs and improve 9+1 scores (supplier relationships).
• Provide input into supplier selection to ensure consistent quality and accuracy of costing.
• Travel to suppliers as needed to address issues. Perform problem solving or use the proper analytical tool.
• Work in accordance with the Volvo CE processes, the Volvo Way and the Volvo Values and Behaviors

Education/Professional Qualifications required for the position:
• Engineering degree or similar (TH/FH, Master, Bachelor), alternatively a technical education (German Meisterbrief / Techniker) with appropriate work experience (3-7 years)
• Technical and/or process experience 3-7 years in the commodities of responsibility.
• Ability to read complex drawings and schematics
• Proven experience in the field of quality such as: Auditor ISO 9001 or higher
• Knowledge of Automotive quality tools like APQP/PPAP
• Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
• Proven problem-solving skills, Six Sigma GB or BB is considered as an advantage
• Ability to work on your own responsibility in a strong cross functional team
• Self-confidence and good communication skills with internal and external business partners
• Knowledge of SAP is a plus
• Sustainability related knowledge (MDS, SAQ, LCA, etc.) is a plus
Additional Important Requirements:
• Strong communication skills in English, additional language skills are considered a plus (especially Spanish)
• Occasional travel is required, primarily within the Region.

For this position, the base salary range is set at $83,500 - $103,100 USD, and where applicable, bonus eligible. The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
