The Vocational Trainee role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to support/promote the student's career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The vocational trainee experience enables students to participate in professional activities for Volvo Group by working on important and innovative projects. Vocational Trainee positions are structured learning experiences where students and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. This allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Construction Equipment.
What you will do
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform diversified assembly operations required to assemble various sizes and models of construction equipment. Work involves the assembly of complete machines, machine sections, or sub-assemblies, as assigned. Also included is the collaboration to diagnose malfunctions or difficulties concerned with the mechanical aspect of the unit under erection, its hydraulic systems, ignition or control circuits
- Receive direction from the Manager and the daily work assignments from the Team Leader. Work from complex drawings, work instructions, build of material sheets, material lists, and specifications to plan assembly operations while ensuring conformity to specification
- Interpret drawings to verify material requirement and plan efficient sequence of operations. Fit, adjust, and align components, such as gears, shafts, keys and bearings
- Assemble complete machines or sub-assembly as zones are assigned
- Conduct running and performance tests. Diagnose malfunctions, dismantle, clean, and inspect for damage or distortion after running tests. Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified
- Detect and report faulty operation, defective material, questionable drawing requirements, and unusual conditions to proper authority. Maintain working area in neat and orderly conditions as set for by 5s standards daily
- Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
- Follow policies and procedures, support organization’s goals
- Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality; apply feedback to improve performance; monitor one's own work to ensure quality
Who are you?
Skills / Experience Required:
- Student must be currently enrolled and pursuing an Assembly-related field
- Student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5
- Must be at least 17 years of age

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $17.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
