Thesis Flow Simulation of Capacity Depending on Product Mix in a Flexible Assembly Flow
Skövde, SE, 541 87
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Background
At Volvo GTO in Skövde, there is an engine conversion for Volvo Penta engines. The assembly takes place in independent assembly stations within a flexible system for Penta’s various engines. Penta is facing changing market conditions, which means that production needs to ensure the right capacity depending on the product mix. Volvo GTO is requesting a flow simulation in Plant Simulation to be able to predict various future scenarios.
Purpose
Points we want to investigate:
What capacity do we have depending on product mix/volume?
Where does the bottleneck occur?
What capacity is lacking for a given product mix/volume?
Possibility to add more assembly stations
Possibility to adjust the work content in the assembly stations
Full flexibility of personnel
Goal
A completed simulation model that is easy to adjust for future product mixes and logic.
Implementation
We are seeking two thesis students with a suitable background at least at the Bachelor of Science in Engineering level.
The work will start by agreement with the goal of completion before the summer of 2026.
Welcome to submit your application as soon as possible, but no later than December 7, 2025.
