What you will do
Volvo Group is looking for a Senior Cybersecurity Researcher focused on Artificial Intelligence to lead and shape the cybersecurity response to AI-driven threats, AI-enabled systems and AI-powered security capabilities.
This role is responsible for defining how Volvo Group understands AI-enabled cyber threats, sets robust security expectations for AI embedded in systems, platforms and products, and uses AI and data to strengthen cybersecurity across the enterprise.
The position combines cybersecurity research, AI security governance, practical risk management and innovation. It requires a senior expert who can turn emerging technology and threat research into clear security direction, actionable controls and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Own AI-Enabled Threat Research and Defensive Strategy
Own the research agenda for AI-enabled cyber threats and adversarial use of AI.
Analyse how attackers are using AI to enhance phishing, social engineering, malware, vulnerability discovery, automation, evasion, identity attacks and adversarial AI techniques.
Translate threat research into practical outputs, including threat models, control requirements, detection opportunities, defensive strategies and executive-level risk positions.
Provide authoritative insight on how AI-driven attacks may affect Volvo Group’s enterprise, digital, product, engineering and operational environments.
2. Set Security Direction for AI in Systems, Platforms and Products
Drive the security governance of AI capabilities embedded in Volvo Group systems, platforms and products.
Define security principles, requirements, standards, guardrails and review criteria for AI-enabled capabilities.
Identify and drive management of risks related to AI models, data usage, prompts, integrations, third-party AI services, model outputs, misuse, privacy, resilience and operational security.
Embed security-by-design expectations into AI initiatives together with product, engineering, data, platform, risk and security stakeholders.
Contribute to risk acceptance, escalation and decision-making where AI security risks require senior management attention.
3. Drive Cybersecurity Innovation Through AI and Data
Define and drive opportunities to use AI, automation and data to improve Volvo Group cybersecurity capabilities.
Shape practical use cases in areas such as threat detection, security analytics, incident response, vulnerability management, control monitoring, fraud detection, cyber risk management and security decision support.
Translate innovation ideas into validated concepts, reusable patterns and scalable cybersecurity capabilities.
Promote responsible and secure use of AI within cybersecurity, with clear attention to data protection, reliability, misuse risk and operational control.
Who are you?
Required Experience and Capabilities
Strong experience in cybersecurity, security research, threat intelligence, security architecture, detection engineering, product security, AI security or a related field.
Strong understanding of AI, machine learning, generative AI, large language models and the security risks associated with their use.
Proven ability to analyze emerging threats and convert research into actionable security requirements, controls, guidance and decisions.
Ability to influence senior stakeholders, engineers, product teams, data teams, platform teams, risk functions and security teams.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics in a clear, structured and business-relevant way.
Strong analytical mindset, technical depth and ability to operate with independence in an emerging and fast-moving field.
Desirable Experience
Experience with AI security, adversarial machine learning, LLM security, prompt injection, model misuse, data leakage, model governance or AI risk management.
Knowledge of secure-by-design principles, threat modelling, cloud security, application security, product security, data security or enterprise security architecture.
Experience using data science, analytics, automation or AI to improve security operations, cyber risk management or control effectiveness.
Experience working in large, complex organizations with enterprise platforms, digital products, connected products, industrial environments or regulated environments.
