What you will do

We're looking for an agile and hands-on Production Engineer with a continuous improvement mindset to join our manufacturing team at Wacol, Brisbane. This on-site role is essential to driving process optimisation, improving assembly methods, and supporting day-to-day operations on the factory floor.

Whether your background is in heavy vehicles, automotive, or industrial manufacturing, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to embed best practices, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and help shape a safer, smarter, and more efficient future for our factory.

You'll be part of a multicultural, safety- and quality-driven team, where you’ll be empowered to challenge existing processes, contribute fresh ideas, and foster a culture of innovation - all while working on world-class transport solutions.

This position is based on-site and supports daily operations on the factory floor.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update assembly instructions to reflect product and process changes
  • Analyse manufacturing performance to identify improvement opportunities in safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Support the implementation of new tools, equipment, and production methods
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional projects, focusing on reducing waste and improving flow
  • Drive continuous improvement using lean tools such as FMEA, RCA, VSM, 5S, and AVIX
  • Specify requirements and support the integration of new machinery or systems
  • Champion safety and compliance while aligning with Volvo Production System principles
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to implement robust and scalable solutions

Who are you?

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related)-recognition by Engineers Australia highly regarded.
  • Considerable experience in a manufacturing environment- experience with trucks, cars, or industrial products.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Open mindset, continuous improvement focus, and a hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, reporting, and planning).
  • Knowledge of AVIX, Creo View, and AutoCAD is desirable.
  • Green Belt certification in Lean Manufacturing would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multicultural team, driven by safety and quality.
