The Role

As a Team Leader - Production, your primary objective is to ensure that the overall organisational production, quality and safety objectives are met. In this role, you drive change; supervise, support and motivate team members; and importantly, foster a cross functional, collaborative team environment with all Wacol plant stakeholders. 

 

Additional duties include:

Production Operations

  • Conduct daily start-up meetings and team meetings 
  • Report and deliver KPI’s
  • Monitor and secure manning levels per station.
  • Ensure that processes for each workstation are up to date 
  • Ensure all parts shortages are controlled and reported

 

Production Personnel

  • Lead, motivate, encourage and manage performance of the production team 
  • Ensure that training plans are actioned, and employee’s skills meet required standards
  • Participate in monthly performance evaluation sessions with employees, and escalate ongoing performance issues to the Production Manager as required.
  • Monitor and manage team member performance and provide feedback 

 

Quality

  • Initiate investigations, action and monitor progress, promote and ensure Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of the cross functional teams is conducted within 24 hours to support continuous improvement
  • Secure corrective actions for deviations
  • Conduct audit quality checks and report to the team in a timely manner
  • Review, investigate and document unresolved faults
  • Initiate, facilitate and motivate the cross functional team members to review areas for improvement
  • Work actively to reduce the number of Defects Per Vehicle
  • Support, Promote and manage responsibilities in the Quick Response Quality Control System

 

Safety and Environment

  • Ensure compliance with VGA’s Environmental Policy and Workplace Health & Safety policies and practices 
  • Promote a safety conscious way of working
  • Promote, monitor and ensure that all incidents and near misses are reported according to procedure
  • Work cross functionally to investigate and promote safety improvement initiatives and are implemented to protect or minimise harm in the workplace
  • Promote, monitor and ensure that teams are wearing relevant personal protective equipment ensuring compliance to policies and procedure
  • Ensure all team members are working in a safe and effective manner compliant to the core values of Safety, Quality and Environmental care

About You

You are an experienced Team Leader in the manufacturing environment. You thrive in an environment where outcomes are measured and are transparent.  You enjoy the day-to-day leadership of your team including developing their skills and you promote a very strong safety focus.

 

Your Education:

  • 5+ years working in manufacturing environment 
  • Certificate IV in Frontline Management or equivalent (desirable)

 

Your work experience and knowledge:

  • Significant manufacturing industry experience in a leadership role 
  • Significant experience working in a skills-based matrix environment
  • Understanding of logistics systems and processes 
  • Demonstrated health, safety and environment focus 
  • Demonstrated ability in participating in and leading improvement teams
  • Requisite experience in problem solving tools e.g., 5 Whys
  • Sound Knowledge of AS-400
  • Sound computer skills (MS Office and other work-related software)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
