Role Purpose

The Payroll Deliveries Lead is responsible for achieving service, quality, compliance, and timeliness targets. The role is accountable for the team’s day-to-day performance (KPIs, delivery quality), ensures a strong employee experience for internal customers, and drives continuous operational improvement in close collaboration with Process Leaders and management.

Key responsibilities:

Operational leadership & delivery ownership

  • Lead and monitor end-to-end payroll execution to meet agreed KPIs, deadlines, and quality standards.
  • Provide hands-on operational support and remove blockers so team members succeed in daily tasks.

 

Performance management & ways of working

  • Run regular one-to-one meetings focusing on workload, deliverables follow-up, and individual commitment.
  • Ensure adherence to policies, work instructions, and standard payroll processes; reinforce accuracy and attention to detail.

 

Planning, staffing & coordination

  • Manage day-to-day capacity, rota/coverage, prioritization, and holiday coordination (prepare/collect information for manager approval where applicable).

 

Stakeholder management & customer experience

  • Act as the first escalation point for team members and operational payroll topics; ensure clear, proactive communication and customer-focused handling of issues.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with business partners and internal interfaces (e.g., HR operations stakeholders, contact center, process owners as applicable).

 

Problem solving & continuous improvement

  • Lead routine and complex issue resolution using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., root cause analysis, 5 Whys, VPS mindset).
  • Identify recurring operational pain points and partner with the Process Leader/management on improvements, standardization, and automation opportunities (including RPA/automation inputs).

 

Meetings & governance

  • Ensure strong team participation and effective contribution in the operational cadence (daily/weekly operations meetings, team meetings, checkpoints) and escalate risks early with data.

 

Recruitment support

  • Participate in interviews and support hiring decisions for payroll operations roles.

 

Success measures (typical KPIs)

  • On-time payroll delivery rate; critical error rate and rework volume
  • Quality/compliance audit outcomes; adherence to work instructions
  • Case backlog/aging, first time-right resolution
  • Team productivity and capacity coverage
  • Employee experience indicators: engagement, training completion, retention risk signals
  • Continuous improvement: number of root causes removed, defects prevented, automation ideas implemented

Required competencies:

  • Operations & Compliance: accuracy, adherence to process, attention to detail; French labor law/policy understanding; end-to-end process & HRIS awareness
  • Digital literacy: confident use of SuccessFactors, SAP HR, M365, ASK HR and related tools; openness to AI/PowerApps support tools
  • Information management: confidential handling, reporting and data privacy / information risk awareness
  • Customer service & stakeholder management: proactive communication, teamwork, conflict handling, time management
  • Problem solving: corrective and preventive actions using structured methods (VPS, root cause analysis, 5 Whys)
  • Change & improvement: continuous improvement mindset; ability to support/lead change and contribute to automation
  • Business acumen: understanding business goals/priorities and operational context; active listening and organizational awareness

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience leading a French payroll or HR operations team, or acting as a senior payroll SME/lead with proven delivery ownership
  • Strong understanding of French payroll processing controls, deadlines, and service management
  • Comfort with HRIS and reporting; ability to use data to manage performance and risks
  • Experience working in a controlled environment (audit/compliance mindset
  • Advanced command of French language
