Volvo Buses is now looking for a Legal Counsel Compliance to join our team in Gothenburg. We are seeking a strong legal counsel with at least 5 years of experience from a law firm and/or an in‑house legal function who enjoys combining legal and compliance work with pragmatic business support and who is curious about how law, ethics, and compliance shape the business.
About the Role: As Legal Counsel Compliance at Volvo Buses, you will act as a trusted legal advisor with a compliance focus, supporting in day-to-day compliance related commercial matters, supporting ways of working to ensure an efficient implementation and follow-up of the Volvo Group compliance program including the Volvo Buses global responsible sales process, manage and contribute to risk assessments and mitigation plans, and deliver training and guidance. You will also act as secretary to the Volvo Buses Compliance Committee, as Volvo Buses’ representative in the Volvo Group Compliance Leadership Team, and manage and support investigations of whistleblower reports.
You will play an important role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal and compliance risks, while contributing to the development of a strong and sustainable compliance culture. You will work closely with business and functional stakeholders across Volvo Buses and Volvo Group, both in Sweden and internationally, helping the organization navigate an increasingly complex regulatory and ethical landscape.
The Volvo Buses legal & compliance team currently consists of the General Counsel and legal counsels located in Sweden, Mexico and Canada, and works in close collaboration with Volvo Group legal and compliance colleagues in other regions.

Core responsibilities:
- Represent Volvo Buses in the Volvo Group Compliance Leadership Team, and supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of Volvo Group compliance programs and ways of working as relevant for Volvo Buses.
- Providing pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice on key compliance areas, such as competition law, export control & sanctions, data privacy and other data related compliance areas, and anti-bribery & corruption.
- Design, deliver and coordinate compliance training, communication and awareness activities across regions and functions to strengthen a strong speak-up and compliance culture.
- Support global and regional compliance risk assessments and due diligence and help define and track mitigation actions.
- Contribute to investigations and case handling (e.g. whistleblowing matters), coordinating with relevant functions and stakeholders across geographies.
What you bring:
- University degree in law (LL.M. or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience from a law firm and/or in-house legal function, with exposure to compliance work.
- A broad legal mindset and interest in how legal and compliance advice supports business decisions.
- Curiosity about compliance, ethics, and responsible sales — and a desire to learn by doing.
- A positive, proactive, and energetic approach, with the courage to ask questions and challenge constructively.
- High integrity, sound judgement, and ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in cross-functional and international teams.
- The ability to communicate clearly and pragmatically with non‑legal stakeholders. Professional proficiency in English.
- Prior hands‑on compliance experience is beneficial but not required. We value learning ability, engagement, and attitude as much as existing expertise.
