The Global Headquarters for Volvo Financial Services is seeking a Senior Counsel, Commercial & Operations to serve as a senior legal lead for strategic and operational support across global commercial activities, credit and risk, financing products and services, governance, and core business operations.

What you will do

As Senior Counsel, Commercial & Operations, you will serve as the primary legal partner to the SVP Credit & Risk, designated Regional SVPs and other business leaders to provide strategic, practical legal advice on commercial matters and the development, governance, structuring, and execution of financial products and services that enable the sale of Volvo Group products.

The role combines sound legal risk management with business enablement, helping deliver scalable, well-governed, and commercially effective solutions, while supporting corporate governance, legal entity management, internal controls, assurance activities, and matters requiring global legal oversight or coordination.

The position will lead a small team of one Counsel and one Paralegal. You will work closely with regional Legal & Compliance colleagues on legal, governance, and policy alignment and help develop the VFS legal function through legal operations, knowledge sharing, standards, processes, capability building, and collaboration across global and market teams.

Your starting point will be to, together with your Legal & Compliance colleagues at VFS and in the broad cross-functional network at the Volvo Group, take responsibility in the following areas:

•    Advise on and structure, draft, review, and negotiate commercial transactions, customer and dealer arrangements, financing-related initiatives, and complex commercial, asset finance, leasing, secured financing, and related documentation
•    Support the development, governance, implementation, and execution of new and existing financing products, services, solutions, business development and innovation initiatives, including legal input for product investment committee submissions
•    Draft, review, and advise on policies, procedures, disclosures, standards, and process documentation; monitor and analyze laws, regulations, industry developments, and requirements affecting VFS products, services, operations, financing activities, and compliance priorities
•    Support lifecycle and portfolio matters for financing products, including origination, servicing, amendments, collections, terminations, enforcement, recovery, distressed credits, workouts, and restructurings
•    Advise Credit & Risk and business stakeholders on credit approvals, underwriting frameworks, collateral, security and credit support, credit insurance, risk mitigation, documentation standards, and allocation of legal and commercial risk
•    Provide senior legal guidance to SVP Credit & Risk, designated Regional SVPs, market leadership, and other stakeholders, coordinating with market Legal & Compliance teams on complex and cross-border matters to promote consistent legal positions, documentation, standards, governance expectations, and execution
•    Provide generalist legal advice and coordination for escalated matters such as employment and labor issues, whistleblowing matters, investigations, disputes, and other sensitive issues, working with specialist functions where appropriate
•    Lead, develop, and coach a team of one Counsel and one Paralegal, while contributing to legal operations, knowledge sharing, standards, processes, capability building, and collaboration across HQ and market Legal & Compliance teams
•    Advise on corporate governance and legal entity management matters
•    Support Business Risk Assurance and Advisory, audit, and regulatory inquiry work from a legal perspective
•    Develop and lead training for relevant business stakeholders and support the implementation of compliance initiatives and programs in coordination with colleagues and other specialist functions
•    Provide legal support for special projects, strategic initiatives, transformation activities, and cross-functional matters that advance VFS business priorities, operational effectiveness, innovation, and continuous improvement
•    Provide legal support to and participate in relevant Volvo Group forums, committees, and initiatives as needed
•    Contribute VFS legal perspectives in Group discussions and support alignment with Volvo Group legal frameworks and expectations
