Head of Maintenance Volvo Powertrain Industrial Skövde

Volvo Powertrain Industrial in Skövde is undergoing a historic transformation as we develop and begin producing tomorrow’s sustainable powertrains. At the same time, we continue to manufacture world-class engines. To succeed in this transformation, we need a maintenance organisation that delivers high reliability today while developing to meet future needs.

We are now looking for a Head of Maintenance to lead and develop the organisation through this change. We are looking not only for an experienced maintenance leader, but for a results-oriented transformation leader who can engage people, challenge established ways of working and build a strong culture characterised by both Dare and Care.

Who are you?

A present and inclusive leader, you bring people together in a clear direction and create the trust and engagement needed to deliver results. You understand the connection between people, ways of working and results, and know that sustainable improvements are achieved together with the organisation. You will encourage fresh thinking, and not just rely on established practices, drive change, while showing care and creating psychological safety.

Experienced in leading through other leaders, you build alignment across the organisation and make complex topics easy to understand. Your communication helps people see why change matters and how they can contribute. When obstacles arise, with a structured and persistent approach you keep focus on the target, the gap, root causes, clear priorities and improvements that deliver results. Following up on progress, giving regular feedback and celebrating successes are all important parts of how you lead.

The assignment

You will join the Skövde management team, report to the Head of Skövde plant, and play a central role in developing the business strategy and advancing initiatives that strengthen the entire production site. In this role your heading an organisation of approximately 600 employees together with four department managers and several production leaders across the respective functions.

Together with your management team, you will continue the journey of developing maintenance from reactive interventions towards a more planned, preventive and data-driven approach. By understanding and addressing root causes, you and the organisation will contribute to greater reliability, improved availability and more efficient production flows. You will drive the development of maintenance strategies, processes, competence and ways of working. This also includes developing the use of data and AI to plan and prioritize maintenance activities, monitor results and predict failures.

The role involves close collaboration with Production, Engineering and other functions. You will have overall responsibility for ensuring that maintenance contributes to safety, quality, production performance, budget and continuous improvement.

Your ticket to ride

  • A Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent experience considered relevant by the employer.
  • Several years of experience in manufacturing or process industries, together with a good understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance, reliability and systematic improvement.
  • A proven track record of successful leadership in maintenance, engineering or production.
  • Experience leading through managers and developing large organisations.
  • Experience in change management and in developing ways of working, organisations and culture.
  • The ability to use data and relevant performance measures to set priorities, monitor progress and deliver results.
  • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across functions and organisational boundaries.
